Baseball European Federation Cup Recap: Eight Extra Inning Runs?

The games for the fourth day of the Baseball European Federation Cup Qualifiers in Sweden took place on June 14 at Skarpnack Baseballpark.

Kaunus County (Lithuania) 6, Tempere Tigers (Finland) 5

Kaunus County third baseman and pitcher Vilius Paikovas hit an inside-the-park home run to give Kaunus County a 6-4 lead in the top of the ninth against Tempere Tigers starting pitcher Ramos Rodriguez Leodanys. Leodanys threw 153 pitches in the 6-5 loss and struck out six batters.

Paikovas also pitched the ninth inning and got the save. Leodanys also hit for the Tempere Tigers and got an RBI single against Paikovas. Leodanys went 3-for-5 in the game. Pakiovas was the best player on the field, going 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs.

Kaunus County was down 2-1 after three innings. They took the lead in the top of the fourth with an RBI double from Arunas Dankovskis and an RBI single from Rokas Danielius.

The Tempere Tigers catcher Jose Mesa tied the game at three with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth against Kaunus County starting pitcher Justinas Rackaukas. Rackauskas pitched seven innings, with four runs allowed, one earned, and seven strikeouts.

Relief pitcher Audrius Belliauskas got the win for Kaunus County pitching a scoreless eighth with two strikeouts.

Kanus County (Lithuania) is 1-2 and won 6-5 against the Tempere Tigers (Finland), who are 0-3.

Stockholm Baseboll (Sweden) 13, Kutno (Poland) 5 10 innings

Stockholm Baseboll exploded for eight runs in the 10th to take over the game in their 13-5 win.

Yainier Godinez Ramirez had the first run of the frame with an RBI single. Stockholm Baseboll got six hits in the 10th with four straight at one point. Five different players drove in runs and the scoring was capped with a two-run single by Simon Horne.

Kutno reliever Jakub Wojtczak gave up all eight runs in the 10th, but only one was earned. He pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth.

Stockholm Baseboll first baseman and pitcher Storen Hendrick Hansen had an incredible all-around game. He got the win by pitching four scoreless innings of relief, allowing one hit and eight strikeouts. At the plate, he was 3-for-4 with one RBI,  four runs scored, and two walks.

Kutno shortstop Kiryl Kazlouski had the best day for their offense, going two-for-four with a triple and an RBI. Stockholm Baseboll is 3-0 and they handed Kutno their first loss. Stockholm Baseball needs a win on June 15 to clinch the top spot in the Baseball European Federation Cup Qualifiers.

The Tempere Tigers (Finland) 0-3 will play the London Capitals (Great Britain) 1-2 at 4 p.m ET.

Stockholm Baseboll (Sweden) 3-0 will play Kaunas County 1-2 at 10 p.m. ET.
