(Press Release; WBSC AMERICAS BASEBALL) – The Mexican Professional Baseball Hall of Fame honored two of the teams that have won championships in its history.
The organization recognized the champions of the U23 World Cup held in Barranquilla, Colombia in 2018, where Mexico reached the top of the tournament podium.
Mexico shone throughout the tournament, advancing through the Opening Round as runner-up with a 4-1 record, falling only to Japan, then advanced to the final with a 3-2 record in the Super Round, losing to Korea.
In the final, they met their group rival, Japan, and in ten innings, limited the Asians to one run on one hit, winning 2-1 and taking home the trophy.
But the Hall of Fame also honored the Mexican national team that won the gold medal at the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador.
Mexico had the best record in the tournament with five wins and only one loss against the Dominican Republic, earning the trophy after the final against Cuba was canceled due to rain, as specified by the tournament rules for such situations.
The Mexican Professional Baseball Hall of Fame honored these two teams, among the only ones to have reached the top of the podium in Mexican baseball.
