Viola Davis is SMASHING Through Glass Ceilings!

Officially a recipient of an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony ( or two) … Viola Davis has officially achieved EGOT status! Winning a Grammy On Sunday February 5th, 2023 for her audio book, Finding Me, the memoir she released in 2022, Ms Davis is in a coveted category. Having won many awards, Obie, Screen Actors Guild, BAFTA etc. with even more notable nominations, two wins that are incredibly significant are her 2010 Tony for the Broadway revival of Fences for her role as Rose Maxson ( previously played by Mary Alice, who also won a Tony for her portrayal ) wife to Troy Maxson, played by none other than Denzel Washington another Tony win for his role and whose character was previously played by actor, civil rights activist and fellow EGOT achiever, James Earl Jones (also known for his roles in the Sandlot and Field of Dreams, two other sports themed films ). Rose Maxson is a character she brought back to life, this time on the big screen, playing the wife to Troy, an older sanitation worker who played baseball in the Negro league but was unfortunately too old by the time the Major league Integrated.

Earning her spot in the prestigious category of EGOT winners, having it happen during Black History Month makes it even more notable and significant. From the small stage in Rhode Island, to Juilliard, stage, small screen and big screen… awards and accolades every step of the way, we can’t wait to see what’s next.  Congratulations to Viola Davis … you are a force to be reckoned with. Bravo!
