Blaine Brown had a huge weekend for the Tennessee Volunteers as they swept the Nicholls Colonels at Lindsey Nelson Stadium to begin the 2026 college baseball season.
World Baseball Network takes a look at the Rice transfer’s big first weekend in Knoxville.
Brown hits three home runs against Nicholls
In the three wins for Tennessee against Nicholls, Brown had eight hits, seven runs, three home runs, and five RBIs.
He had six hits combined in the two doubleheader games on Saturday against Nicholls. During the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, he hit two home runs.
Brown talked about the preparation he has gone through, which led to his big performances during college baseball’s opening weekend.
“I’ve taken countless swings in the cage,” Brown said. “Coming in early and getting batting practice in with Chuck [Jeroloman] and Josh [Elander] has been a huge help.”
Brown’s 2025 season at Rice
Before transferring to Tennessee, Brown had a big 2025 season for the Rice Owls. He led the Owls in hitting with a .292 batting average, 12 doubles, 10 home runs, and 38 RBIs.
Brown was named first-team All-American Athletic Conference (AAC) and was a part of the AAC All-Freshman team.
He was the first Rice player to lead the team in hitting as a freshman since Anthony Rendon did it in 2009.
