Jarren Duran of the Boston Red Sox has confirmed that he will play for Mexico in the 2026 World Baseball Classic, the National Teams Commission, a cooperative effort of the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol and the Federacion Mexicana de Beisbol announced on Thursday.
Duran played for Mexico in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, where Japan edged Mexico in the semifinal at Miami’s loanDepot Park. His career has been on the rise ever since, with the outfielder earning a spot in the 2024 All-Star Game, where he was named the All-Star Game MVP.
Entering his age-29 season in 2026, Duran has made 510 appearances with the Boston Red Sox at the Major League level, batting /267/.326/.452 with 50 homers and 226 RBIs. In 2024, Duran led MLB in doubles with 48 and triples with 14 and finished eighth in the American League MVP voting.
With Mexico in 2023, Duran saw limited action, going 0-for-5 with two strikeouts, stealing two bases and scoring two runs in six games at the World Baseball Classic.
Mexico will play in Pool B at Daikin Park in Houston. They’ll face Great Britain on March 6, Brazil on March 8, the United States on March 9, and Italy on March 11.
