On Friday, March 27, the Tennessee Volunteers will have Brandon Arvidson start on the mound against the Vanderbilt Commodores at Hawkins Field in Nashville.
This season, Arvidson has a 3.52 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 15 ⅓ innings of work. He has also allowed an opposing batting average of just .218.
Arvidson had a great outing against the Georgia Bulldogs on March 13. In 4 ⅓ innings of work, he gave up no runs and just two hits. The redshirt junior also struck out four Georgia hitters during that outing.
The Saturday and Sunday starters remain the same for Tennessee as it will be Landon Mack and Evan Blanco, respectively.
Why the change from Kuhns to Arvidson?
Tegan Kuhns is a top 50 2026 MLB Draft prospect according to MLB Pipeline. He has been Tennessee’s Friday night starter until the starting rotation announcement for the series against Vanderbilt.
The reason for the change between Kuhns and Arvidson may be that Kuhns’ last handful of starts have not been too great.
In his last four starts combined, dating back to February 27 against UCLA, Kuhns allowed 26 hits and 14 earned runs. He also allowed a home run in each of those appearances.
After these four starts, it is fair to assess that head coach Josh Elander and the rest of the Tennessee coaching staff felt a change was needed.
Up next for Tennessee
The Tennessee Volunteers have an 18-7 overall record. They are also 3-3 in Southeastern Conference (SEC) play this season.
The first game of their weekend series against Vanderbilt will be on Friday, March 27. The first pitch at Hawkins Field in Nashville is at 8 p.m. ET.
