Braves CF Harris scratched from the lineup, then hits 2-run double as pinch-hitter vs Phillies

ATLANTA (AP) — After being scratched from the Atlanta Braves lineup with an ailing left quad, Michael Harris II delivered as a pinch-hitter Friday night against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Harris drove a two-run double against the wall in left-center off Andrew Painter to give the Braves a 4-3 lead over the slumping Phillies, who came into the night with a nine-game losing streak.

Harris left the previous day’s in the seventh inning, and the Braves decided to give him some extra rest to make sure there is no long-term impact from the tightness in his quad.

Harris looked to be just fine as he jogged into second base. He was immediately replaced by pinch-runner Jorge Mateo, who stole third and came home for an insurance run on a wild pitch by Painter.

Harris is off to a blistering start for the first-place Braves, hitting .326 with six homers and 18 RBIs.

Manager Walt Weiss said before the game that Harris was day to day and not expected to go on the injured list. Eli White got the start in center field against the Phillies.

In other injury news, Weiss said Raisel Iglesias is unlikely to have a lengthy stint on the IL. The right-hander was shut down Tuesday for at least 15 days because of inflammation in his throwing shoulder.

Iglesias has not allowed a run in 8 2/3 innings, recording five saves. Robert Suarez is filling in as the closer.
