Brazil Announces Roster for Copa América de Béisbol

On Wednesday, Brazil announced its roster for the upcoming Copa América de Béisbol, which will be played in Panama from Nov. 13-22.

The roster includes 14 players who represented Brazil during the World Baseball Classic qualifiers in March. The team will use the tournament to evaluate players ahead of the 2026 World Baseball Classic and to pursue qualification for the 2027 Pan American Games.

Among the most notable names on the roster is right-hander Daniel Missaki, who signed with the Texas Rangers organization earlier this year. Missaki did not pitch for Brazil during World Baseball Classic qualifiers but will join the national team for the Copa América. The only minor leaguer on the pitching staff, Missaki posted a 4.38 ERA for Double-A Frisco this season, working as both a starter and reliever. As a reliever, he logged 47 2/3 innings, struck out 49 batters, and recorded a 3.78 ERA. While capable of handling multiple roles, he’s expected to work primarily out of the bullpen and could serve as Brazil’s closer. He previously played to Brazil at the 2023 Pan American Games.

Another experienced arm returning to the roster is Bo Takahashi, who appeared for Brazil in the World Baseball Classic qualifiers, allowing one run over 2 1/3 innings against Cuba. Takahashi spent most of the 2025 season pitching for Seibu’s minor league affiliate in Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball system, posting a 3.05 ERA with 34 strikeouts over 59 innings.

Offensively, Lucas Rojo is expected to lead Brazil’s lineup. Rojo started at second base during the World Baseball Classic qualifiers, where he finished with a 1.000 OPS, the third-highest mark on the team.

Another key bat will be Victor Coutinho, who played in Italy in 2025 and finished with a .913 OPS. Coutinho was among the league leaders in home runs, hitting six for Nettuno.

Brazil will compete in Group B, alongside Argentina, Canada, Colombia, Panama and Puerto Rico. Group B games will be played at Estadio Mariano Rivera in La Chorrera and Estadio Remon Cantera in Aguadulce.

The tournament will serve as a key qualifier for multiple international events. Five teams will advance to the 2027 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru, while four will qualify for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. With Olympic qualification expected to be tied to those events — and 10 of the teams also slated to play in the 2026 World Baseball Classic — the Copa América will play a crucial role in shaping rosters and potential Olympic opportunities ahead of the 2028 Games in Los Angeles.
