Brazil’s History in the World Baseball Classic

On Thursday, Brazil defeated Germany 6-4 in Tucson, Ariz. to officially qualify for the 2026 World Baseball Classic. Now that Brazil has made it, let’s take a look back at the national team’s history in the World Baseball Classic.

Since the inaugural WBC in 2006, Brazil has made the major international event just one other time in 2013. They were placed in Pool A along with Japan, China, and Cuba and played at the Fukuoka Dome.

It was a rough go-at-it during this tournament as they went 0-3. It began with a 5-3 loss to the home country Japan. The next day, Brazil lost again. This time, Cuba defeated them 5-2.

China also defeated Brazil beating them 5-2 to end their run in 2013.

Come 2026, Brazil will be in the World Baseball Classic for the second time ever. They have plenty of opportunities to make history as their first win in the big tournament is on the table.

The 2026 World Baseball Classic is set to take place from Mar. 5-17. The venues for the tournament include Hiram Bithorn Stadium in San Juan, P.R., Daikin Park in Houston, the Tokyo Dome, and LoanDepot Park in Miami.
