Sint Maarten (2-0) 1, U.S. Virgin Islands (0-2) 0 – Sint Maarten defeated USVI 1-0 to add their second win in the 7th Caribbean Cup and place themselves at the top of the standings.
Mervin Gario, Head Coach of Sint Maarten, declared from the beginning that his philosophy was to have fun on the field and seek the best result for a nation that seeks to make history in Caribbean baseball.
USVI, meanwhile, is now in a difficult situation with two losses in two outings and will take a break this Friday in the continuation of the tournament.
Jeldwin Orman had two hits, including a double, and Quintin de Cuba scored the lone run for Sint Maarten in the win.
Curacao (1-1) 7, Dominican Republic (0-2) 2 – Despite the Dominican Republic collecting eight hits to CUW’s seven, they fell 7-2 on Thursday in Nassau. Francisco Reynoso and Willi Santo each had two hits for the Dominican Republic.
A single by Ericson Leonora put CUW on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning.
CUW added two runs in the second. The Dominican Republic committed an error, making the score 3-0.
CUW increased their early lead in the top of the third inning after Marcashendric Madinus hit a single to center field and Arjun Huerta received a walk, each scoring a run.
Nemerson Angela earned the win for CUW. The starting pitcher allowed six hits and one run in five innings, striking out six and issuing no walks. Yonawi Florimon took the loss for the Dominican Republic. The starting pitcher pitched seven innings, allowing seven runs (four earned) and seven hits, striking out six and walking four.
