Sint Maarten 21, Dominican Republic 0 (Five Innings) – Sint Maarten topped the Dominican Republic 21-0in five innings on Wednesday in the opening game of the 7th Caribbean Baseball Cup in Nassau, Bahamas.
Sint Maarten took the lead in the bottom of the first inning after Arthur Bonevacia was hit by a pitch, driving in a run; Tommy Van De Sanden singled, scoring a run; Keanu Jacobs singled, scoring a run; Julian Goins singled, scoring two runs; Julian King singled, scoring two runs; Railison Ventura hit a sacrifice fly, scoring a run; and Victor Draijer singled, scoring two runs.
They scored six more runs a in the bottom of the second inning. Julian King hit a double, scoring one run; Railison Ventura hit a ground ball, scoring one run; Victor Draijer hit a triple, scoring two runs; Arthur Bonevacia hit a double, scoring one run; and Tommy Van De Sanden hit a single, scoring one run.
Victor Draijer hit an inside-the-park grand slam in the bottom of the third inning.
Rafael Cocu earned the win on the mound for SMT. Starting pitcher Jurgen Swizer didn’t allow any hits or runs in those innings, and Cocu fulfilled his duty in the other two.
Rafael García took the loss for the Dominican Republic. The starting pitcher pitched two innings, allowing 16 runs (12 earned) on 12 hits, striking out two and walking three.
SMT collected 16 hits in the game, while the DR had none. Víctor Draijer led the middle of the lineup, driving in seven runs for SMT. The center fielder went 3-for-4. Quintín De Cuba, Arthur Bonevacia, Julian King, Tommy Van De Sanden, and Julian Goins each had multiple hits for SMT. Jurgens Switzer pitched a flawless fourth inning, striking out all three batters on nine pitches. Julian King stole two bases. SMT ran the bases relentlessly, stealing five bases in the game.
