Caribbean Series: Curacao 2, Mexico 1

Small ball came up big for Curacao on the second day of the 2023 Caribbean Series.

Curacao manufactured two runs against the solid pitching of Mexico’s Matt Pobereyko, and it was enough to carry the island to a 2-1 win.

In the top of the third, Roger Bernadina hit a two-out doubled to left, and Ray-Patrick Didier followed it up with a double of his own to score Bernadina.

In the fifth, Bernadina doubled home Edmond Americaan for a 2-0 lead.

Joey Terdoslavich homered to center field to get Mexico on the board in the sixth inning, but that was all that the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifco champs could muster.

Pobereyko scattered seven hits across six innings of work, allowing two runs, both earned, to take the loss.

Nestor Molina went 5.2 innings for Curacao, allowing three hits, one run, and striking out four. Kevin Kelly, Edgar Garcia, and Wendell Florianus combined for 3.1 innings of one-hit, shutout ball in relief.

Both teams have a 1-1 record heading into day three of the 2023 Caribbean Series. Curacao will play Panama at 9:30 a.m. ET at La Rinconada, while Mexico will play Colombia at 2 p.m. ET at La Rinconada. Every game of the 2023 Caribbean Series is available via ESPN Deportes and streaming on ESPN+.
