Casan Evans accomplished plenty of different things during his freshman season with the LSU Tigers in 2025.
He helped lead the team to the national championship with a stunning display of pitching. In 52 2/3 innings of work, Evans had a 2.05 ERA, 71 strikeouts, and earned seven saves. He also allowed an opposing batting average of .228.
Evans led LSU in saves last season and ranked in the top ten in saves in the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The Tigers were a top-ten pitching team in the country, with help from Evans.
His best performance came during the Baton Rouge regional in the NCAA Tournament against the Little Rock Trojans on June 2. In six innings of work, he had 12 strikeouts and gave up just one earned run in a 10-6 win.
Evans and his Individual Accolades in 2025
In 2025, Evans was a freshman All-American right-handed pitcher. He was nominated by D1 Baseball, Baseball America, Perfect Game, and the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). Evans was also an SEC All-Freshman player.
The NCBWA and D1 Baseball also named the right-hander a second-team and third-team All-American, respectively.
Evans was one of 13 pitchers in college baseball to be nominated as a 2025 NCBWA Stopper of the Year finalist. This put him in a category among some of the best relievers in the country last season.
Evans made the list along with other great relief pitchers like Arizona’s Tony Pluta, Clemson’s Lucas Mahlstedt, Alabama’s Carson Ozmer, and Oklahoma’s Dylan Crooks.
Up Next for the LSU Tigers
