The right-handed junior from Clearmont, Ga. finished the complete game with 11 strikeouts, no hits allowed, and walked only one batter. The win against James Madison is his first of the season.
Gillespie joins Ronnie Honeycutt as the only pair of pitchers to throw no-hitters in Charlotte baseball history.
This moment is a career one for Gillespie as he made his fourth-ever start with the 49ers. He previously spent two seasons with the Georgia Bulldogs. He threw 19 innings in his career in Athens.
With the win, thanks to the no-hitter, Charlotte is now 5-6 on the season. They will look to beat James Madison again tomorrow to not only get back to .500 this season, but also to take a series win against the Dukes.
The first pitch for Saturday’s matchup at Hayes Stadium is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST.
