The Charros de Jalisco, under manager Benji Gil, secured their third Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacífico (LAMP) championship, defeating the Tomateros de Culiacán 9-6 in 13 innings in Game Six of the 2024-25 LAMP Finals on Tuesday, January 28 at Estadio Tomateros in Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico. The victory sends Jalisco to the 2025 Caribbean Series, set to begin January 31 in Mexicali, Baja California.

Jalisco, which rejoined the LAMP in 2014, has built itself into a strong contender, winning league titles in 2018, 2022, and now 2025. The Tomateros, one of the league’s most accomplished franchises, remain at 13 championships since their founding in 1965, along with two Caribbean Series titles (1996, 2002).

Donovan Casey led Jalisco’s offense, going 5-for-6 with a double, two RBI, and two runs scored, while Jack Mayfield added two hits, three runs, and an RBI. Trevor Clifton, named Finals MVP, won three of Jalisco’s four games in the series, finishing with 8.0 innings pitched, two hits allowed, a 1.13 ERA, and four strikeouts.

Jalisco opened the scoring early with two runs in the first and another in the second, but Culiacán answered with a run in the third and another in the fifth. Efrén Navarro’s three-run homer in the sixth gave the Tomateros their first lead at 6-5, but the Charros responded in the eighth when Casey lined an RBI single, tying the game at six and forcing extra innings.

In the top of the 13th, Casey led off with a single, and an error by Esteban Quiroz put two runners on. Billy Hamilton then executed a squeeze play, bringing in Casey from third to give Jalisco a 7-6 lead.

Mateo Gil followed with a sacrifice fly, bringing in two more insurance runs to seal the 9-6 win.

A benches-clearing moment occurred in the 11th inning after a close play at the plate, leading to both dugouts emptying onto the field. The situation was quickly controlled, and the game resumed without further incident.

Trevor Clifton played a key role in Jalisco’s championship run, earning 2024-25 LAMP Finals MVP honors. The right-hander appeared in three games, recording a 1.13 ERA over 8.0 innings, allowing just two hits and one earned run, while striking out four batters. His performance, which included three of Jalisco’s four wins in the Finals, is recognized in the award presentation below.

Jalisco finished the game with nine runs on 11 hits, while Culiacán managed six runs on nine hits. The Charros struck first with two runs in the opening frame, added three in the sixth, and then sealed the win with three decisive runs in the 13th. Culiacán’s bullpen worked 7.2 innings, allowing five earned runs on six hits, while Jalisco’s relief core, led by Clifton, kept the Tomateros off the board in the final innings.

Clifton ended his dazzling three innings of work on Tuesday night when he got Luis Verdugo to strike out swinging in the bottom of the 13th for the final out of the game and helped Charros de Jalisco earn a berth to the 2025 Caribbean Series and beat the Tomateros de Culiacán on the road at Estadio Tomateros in Culiacán, Sinaloa.

The Charros de Jalisco pitching staff pitched 13 innings, allowing nine hits, four earned runs, five walks, and eight strikeouts.

Charros de Jalisco starting pitcher Ronald Medrano pitched five innings, allowing four hits, one earned run, one walk, and two strikeouts en route to helping his team win their third league championship title.

Tomateros de Culiacán manager Robert Vizcarra enjoyed the relentless efforts of his pitching staff throughout the series, even with coming off on the short end of the stick. The Tomateros de Culiacán’s pitching staff pitched 13 innings, allowing 11 hits, six earned runs, five walks, and 10 strikeouts in their Game Six loss on Tuesday night.

Tomateros de Culiacán starting pitcher Manny Barreda did not have his stuff up to par on Tuesday night and threw 5.2 innings, allowing four hits, five earned runs, two walks, and four strikeouts, while surrendering a solo home run to Mateo Gil over the left-field wall in the sixth inning before exiting the game.

With the LAMP championship secured, Jalisco now prepares for the 2025 Caribbean Series, where they will face the champions from Venezuela, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and the Japan Breeze. The tournament begins on January 31 in Mexicali, with Jalisco representing Mexico on the international stage.

The Charros de Jalisco will play the 2024-25 Liga de Béisbol Roberto Clemente champion, Indios de Mayagüez, on January 31 at El Nido de los Águilas in Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico, at 11:00 p.m. ET on ESPN Deportes and MLB Network.

ESPN Deportes will broadcast the games in Spanish, while MLB Network will provide English play-by-play coverage through the final out of the championship game on February 7.
