The Chicago White Sox have called up Venezuelan right-handed pitcher Wikelman González from Triple-A Charlotte ahead of their weekend series in Toronto, according to Chase Ford of MiLB Central. González, 23, becomes the first pitcher from the trade that sent left-hander Garrett Crochet to Boston to join the White Sox’ Major League roster.

The team has yet to make the move official, though González is expected to be active for the series against the Toronto Blue Jays. A corresponding move will be announced before first pitch.

González joined the White Sox in December 2024 as part of the four-player return from the Red Sox, which included catcher Kyle Teel, infielder Chase Meidroth, and outfielder Braden Montgomery. Both Teel and Meidroth have already made their Major League debuts for Chicago this season, while Montgomery is currently at High-A Winston-Salem.

González, currently ranked No. 15 in the White Sox farm system by MLB Pipeline and No. 18 by South Side Sox, has continued to showcase a high-octane arsenal and strikeout potential since arriving in the organization. He features a fastball that reaches 99 mph, a sharp upper-70s curveball, a fading mid-80s changeup, and a slider that flashes but lacks consistency. His fastball is graded a 60 on the scouting scale, with average secondaries and a control grade of 40, reflecting ongoing command challenges.

In 2025, González has pitched to a combined 3.50 ERA over 16 outings between Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte. He’s allowed just six earned runs in 19.2 innings for Charlotte, striking out 18 and holding opponents to a .198 batting average. Used almost exclusively out of the bullpen since being promoted to Triple-A, he has shown better rhythm and sequencing in shorter stints.

Across six Minor League seasons, González owns a 26-17 record with a 3.93 ERA and 530 strikeouts over 428.1 innings, with 98 of his 116 appearances coming as a starter. Originally signed by Boston out of Venezuela in 2018 for $250,000, he rose to prominence in 2023 by leading all Minor Leaguers in strikeout rate (13.6 per nine innings) and total strikeout percentage.

Despite a rocky start to his 2024 campaign at Double-A Portland, González rebounded late in the year as his mechanical adjustments stabilized. Scouts noted a return of fastball velocity and sharper bite on his breaking ball down the stretch. Still, inconsistency in the strike zone remains the biggest question mark as he transitions to the big leagues.

González was added to the 40-man roster by the Red Sox in 2023 and remained protected during the offseason. The White Sox are betting on his upside, and his Major League debut could come in long relief this weekend.
