The Chicago White Sox selected the contract of outfielder Robbie Grossman due to outfielder Eloy Jimenez landing on the 10-day injured list with an adductor strain, the organization announced on April 5.

Jimenez, the Dominican Republic right-handed hitter, batted .182 in three games to start 2024, recording two hits and striking out twice before being placed on the 10-day injured list. In 18 games of spring training action, he batted .333 in 54 plate appearances, had 17 hits, four doubles, two home runs, 13 RBI, two walks, and five strikeouts.

Grossman, 34, was born in San Diego, California, and has played in 11 seasons in Major League Baseball: with the Houston Astros from 2013-15, the Minnesota Twins from 2016-18, the Oakland Athletics from 2019-20, the Detroit Tigers from 2021-22, the Atlanta Braves in 2022, and the Texas Rangers in 2023.

Last season with the 2023 World Series Champion Rangers, Grossman played in 115 games batting .238 with 420 plate appearances, smacking 84 hits, 23 doubles, one triple, ten home runs, 49 RBI, 57 walks, 98 strikeouts, and a .734 OPS.

In Grossman’s 11 seasons in MLB, he has a lifetime average of .244, playing in 1,126 games with 4,316 plate appearances with 133 hits, 23 doubles, three triples, 23 home runs, 67 RBI, 20 stolen bases, 98 walks, 155 strikeouts, and a .772 OPS.

In his second season, White Sox manager Pedro Grifol will have to evaluate his outfield depth between Andrew Benintendi, Dominic Fletcher, Luis Robert Jr., and Gavin Sheets to see how Grossman can have an opportunity with playing time in the lineup.
