Chinese Taipei’s roster mainly plays in the Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL), except for three players. Pitchers Yu-Min Lin, Wen-Hui Pan, and catcher Lyle Lin were invited to compete in the Premier12 Tournament, as all three players play in minor league organizations.
21-year-old left-handed pitcher Yu-Min Lin is one starting pitcher teams will certainly have their eyes on throughout the tournament. Lin reached Triple-A ball in 2024, dominating the competition in Double-A. In 19 starts in Double-A, Lin went 3-6, a 4.28 ERA, striking out 90 batters in 94.2 innings of work.
Likely to pitch in Chinese Taipei’s bullpen is right-hander Wen-Hui Pan. Pan, 22, is in his second professional season as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies organization. He made 14 appearances with High-A Jersey Shore, going 0-1, recording a 1.29 ERA, walking seven batters, and striking out 22 in 21 innings while picking up one save.
Another player to keep an eye out for will be catcher Lyle Lin. Lin, 27, was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 14th round of the 2019 MLB Draft out of Arizona State University. Born in Taipei, Taiwan, Lin reached Double-A with the D-Backs organization, playing 14 games there, hitting .409 with one home run, and driving in seven RBIs.
The team will be without former MLB slugger and current Fubon Guardian Yu Chang. Chang suffered a broken finger towards the end of the CPBL season. Chang hit for a .276 average, blasting ten home runs and 30 RBIs in 45 games with Fubon.
Chinese Taipei will start their quest for the Premier12 title on November 13, when they will be hosts to South Korea. The game will be at the Taipei Dome in Taipei, Taiwan, with the first pitch set for 5:30 am EST.
