The Duke Blue Devils defeated the Cornell Big Red 16-2 for their third win of the season. The win marks the 382nd in head coach Chris Pollard’s career in Durham, N.C. Thus, he became the winningest coach in school history.
Pollard passed former head coach Jack Coombs’ 381 wins on Saturday. Coombs was the Duke baseball coach from 1929-1951 and the Blue Devils’ ballpark is named after him.

Pollard started coaching Duke in 2013 after spending eight seasons at Appalachian State. In his fourth season with the Blue Devils, he took the team to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1961.
Since 2018, Pollard has led Duke to five more NCAA Tournaments. He also has brought the team to super regionals in 2018, 2019, and 2023.
The tenured Duke skipper has also brought a championship pedigree to the program during his time there. The Blue Devils won the ACC Tournament under him in 2021. Three years later, Duke won their conference tournament again.
Pollard has changed the dynamic of Duke baseball and it has led him to become the Blue Devils’ winningest coach. A few conference titles have come along with that, and many more accomplishments are set to be earned while he is in Durham.
Duke looks to clinch a series win and get back above .500 against Cornell on Sunday, Feb. 23. The first pitch at Jack Coombs Field is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. EST.
