Clemson’s Jarren Purify Out Multiple Weeks with a Fractured Finger

Clemson second baseman Jarren Purify suffered a fractured finger on Saturday against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

As a result, the junior from Detroit, Mich. will be out multiple weeks, according to All Clemson Sports Coverage on Instagram.

Purify was putting his best season together for Clemson as he had a .333 batting average, six doubles, and 13 RBIs.

Per usual, he is a big base-stealing threat for the Tigers with 10 stolen bases this year.

Who can step up for Clemson at second base for Purify?

The Tigers will need to find a replacement to fill in for Purify at the second base position for the time being.

On Sunday, March 22, Jay Dillard stepped in to play second base in the series finale against Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.

Heading into Sunday, Dillard had a .289 batting average in 38 at-bats for the Tigers. He hit his first career home run for Clemson against Michigan State back on March 4.

Dillard seems like a likely candidate to step into the middle infield routinely for Clemson. The Tigers also have a freshman in Jackson Taylor, who can fill in the position during Purify’s absence.

Taylor was a top 100 high school prospect from the state of Georgia in the 2025 class, according to Perfect Game.

Clemson is still waiting on the return of Collin Priest from injury as well. Once he returns, he could play in the infield in some capacity. Last season, he was mostly Clemson’s designated hitter and played a little bit at first base.

According to The Clemson Insider, head coach Erik Bakich said that Priest is looking at a return in the middle or at the end of the month of April.

Clemson’s record and ranking

After two losses to Notre Dame, the Clemson Tigers have an 18-6 overall record this season. They are 1-4 overall in Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) play. Heading into this week, Clemson was ranked 19th in the country in D1 Baseball’s top 25 rankings.
