On Saturday, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers defeated the Auburn Tigers 4-1 at Plainsman Park in Auburn, Ala. to advance to the College World Series.

The win for the Chanticleers makes it 23 wins in a row. The team has not lost since April 22 when they lost a midweek matchup against the College of Charleston.

The win also moves Coastal Carolina up to 52 total wins this season. They are three wins away from tying the school record for most wins in a season. This was set in 2016 when the Chanticleers won their first and only national championship.

Pitching Gets it Done for Coastal Carolina in College World Series Clinching Win –  Jacob Morrison got the start for the Chanticleers on Saturday with a trip to the College World Series on the line.

The Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year delivered a fabulous start. Despite giving up six hits, he allowed just one earned run and struck out six of Auburn’s batters through six innings of work.

Hayden Johnson came in to relieve Morrison and also pitched well. He closed out the rest of the game, pitching three innings. In that stretch, he struck out five of Auburn’s hitters while walking just one player. Johnson also only gave up just two hits.

The Chanticleers rank second in the country in team ERA (3.25). That was put on display with their super regional sweep against Auburn.

Up Next – For the second time ever, Coastal Carolina is heading to the College World Series, which is set to begin on Friday, June 13.
