Coastal Carolina Baseball Puts Together a Statement Win Over North Carolina

On Tuesday, April 28, the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers crushed the North Carolina Tar Heels 12-2 at Boshamer Stadium in Chapel Hill.

For the Chanticleers, this is a statement win as they picked up a win on the road against the number two team in the country.

As a team, Coastal Carolina had 15 hits, and the pitching staff struck out 10 North Carolina hitters.

Who contributed on offense for the Chanticleers?

Blake Barthol led the way for Coastal Carolina on offense against the Tar Heels. In five at-bats, he had four hits, including a double and a triple.

Rex Watson and Colby Thorndyke both had three hits apiece against North Carolina. The two players also combined for three RBIs. Watson had two doubles in the game.

Jackson Winer and Ty Barrango also came up in big spots with two RBIs for Coastal Carolina.

Complete effort from Coastal Carolina’s pitching staff

The Chanticleers had four different pitchers appear on the mound during their midweek win over North Carolina. All of them put together big time performances.

Jackson Smallets started on the mound for Coastal Carolina. Despite giving up two earned runs, he struck out three North Carolina hitters and only allowed one walk.

Smallets ended up putting together four innings of work.

Daniel Parker replaced Smallets on the mound in relief for the Chanticleers. In two innings of work, he struck out two hitters while allowing no runs and just one hit.

Parker earned the win against the Tar Heels.

Darin Horn entered the game for Parker and picked up right where he left off. In two innings of work, he had three strikeouts and allowed no runs against North Carolina.

Ryan Lynch closed out the game and pitched one inning. He struck out two hitters and gave up no runs.

North Carolina could only score two runs in the second inning. The Tar Heels were held in check in a major way by Coastal Carolina’s pitching staff on Tuesday night.
