This week, D1 Baseball named Coastal Carolina pitching coach Matt Williams the 2025 Assistant Coach of the Year.
Williams was hired by Coastal Carolina in June 2024 after spending a season with the South Carolina Gamecocks as their pitching coach. He made an instant impact on the Chanticleers’ pitching staff this season.

Coastal Carolina had some of the Best Pitching in the Country – Under Williams, Coastal Carolina finished with a 3.20 team ERA. This was the second-best team ERA in the country as the Chanticleers finished behind only the Northeastern Huskies for the best team ERA.
Williams developed some great pitchers this season. Jacob Morrison became the Coastal Carolina ace who had a 2.42 ERA and 104 strikeouts. He ended up winning Sun Belt Pitcher of the Year and was an All-American.
Cam Flukey, who is returning to Coastal Carolina in 2026, ended up being first-team All-Sun Belt along with Morrison. He was a third team All-American.
Relief pitcher Dominick Carbone was named second team All-Sun Belt after a great season under Williams. He had a 2.36 ERA, 52 strikeouts, and five saves in 2025.
The Chanticleers made it to the College World Series national championship series against the LSU Tigers this season. They finished as runners-up in thir second trip to Omaha in program history.
In the five games they played in Omaha, they allowed five runs or fewer in every single game.
This caps off the great work Williams did all season with the pitching staff as Coastal Carolina ended up as arguably the best pitching team in college baseball.
The Chanticleers ended the season as Sun Belt regular season and tournament champions. They had a 56-13 overall record and were 26-4 in conference play.
