COCABE Announces 2024 Caribbean Cup With Press Conference In Nassau, Bahamas On Friday

The 2024 Caribbean Cup at Andre Rodgers Stadium in Nassau, Bahamas from October 23-28 was officially announced at the Bahamas Baseball Association and Confederacion del Caribe de Beisbol press conference on September 20.  

Host nation Bahamas, Cuba, St. Maarten, Curacao, Dominican Republic, and the United States Virgin Islands will participate at the 2024 Caribbean Cup at Andre Rodgers Stadium.  

COCABE has not yet announced if the games will be seven innings or nine innings at the 2024 Caribbean Cup.  

The Cuban national team will be made up of young players for Cuba that have played in prior age group events and have also played in the Serie Nacional and Elite League due to the 2024 Premier12 tournament operated by the World Baseball Softball Confederation happening from November 9-24.  

The FCB has not yet announced when the third season of the Elite League will start for 2024-25. The Serie Nacional was the only winter and higher up league on the island beginning during the United States Trade Embargo in 1960. The Elite League will be in its third season of operation if the league resumes for 2024-25.  

COCABE is part of the WBSC Americas sector and operates the Caribbean Cup annually. 

COCABE announced the schedule on September 11 for the 2024 Caribbean Cup.  

The Bahamas last hosted the 2022 Caribbean Cup in December, which was the first event at Andre Rodgers Stadium.  

BBA President Samuel E. Rodgers Sr., Vice President Joseph Moss and Secretary General Theodore Sweeting were a big part of organizing the event with negotiating to have the event and finalizing the process to have the 2024 Caribbean Cup under Secretary General of COCABE, Manuel Frias approval.  

Sweeting stated on the COCABE social media pages after the press conference, “We have gotten a tremendous response from our governing body WBSC which is now recognizing The Bahamas as the premier destination in the Caribbean for baseball.” 

Zane Lightbourne, Minister of State for the Environment, Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture Mario Bowle, and Prime Minister Phillip Davis were also in attendance on September 20 at Andre Rodgers Stadium.  

Sint Maarten Baseball-Softball Federation will participate in an international senior event for the first time at the 2024 Caribbean Cup.  

The SMBSF is a WBSC Provisional Member in the governing body of the sports Americas sector under their first year of as an operating federation under President, Austin Helliger. St. Maarten is not ranked in the World Baseball Rankings from the WBSC.  

The 2024 Caribbean Cup will have all games at Andre Rodgers Stadium. The opening ceremony for the 2024 Caribbean Cup will be right on October 23 at 7:00 p.m. EDT after the Dominican Republic play Curacao at 3 p.m. EDT.  

There are 15 games scheduled during the seven-day span at the 2024 Caribbean at Andre Rodgers Stadium.  

Cuba is ranked No. 8 in the WBSC rankings and in the WBSC Americas they are No. 4.
