Colby Guy Breaks Down Transfer Commitment to Arizona State

About a week ago, right-handed pitcher from Chester, S.C., Colby Guy, announced his transfer commitment to play for the Arizona State Sun Devils in 2026.

The 2025 Big South Preseason Pitcher of the Year broke down why he chose to leave UNC Asheville and go out west to Tempe to continue his college baseball career in an interview with World Baseball Network.

“They stuck out to me because it is a quality, winning program,” Guy said. “The coaches and development there were great. I want to be a part of their culture next year and help win some games to get them to Omaha.”

Guy did not see the mound as much as expected due to a shoulder impingement injury. He is currently undergoing rehab and gave an update on how he is progressing.

“Everything is going good,” Guy said. “I was out for six weeks and medically redshirted. I’m just slowly getting back into it so I can be ready for the fall.”

In 2024, Guy had a healthy season where he made 13 starts for his now former team, the UNC Asheville Bulldogs. He had a 4.35 ERA and a 7-4 record as he threw a total of 70 1/3 innings.

His best stretch of games that season came against Radford and Winthrop on April 13 and 20. He went 6 2/3 and 8 innings in those games, respectively, and combined for 18 strikeouts in those two performances.

On April 23, 2024, he won the Big South Pitcher of the Week in recognition of those outings.

Guy also broke down what made his 2024 season a good one in his eyes.

“I really competed well,” the Chester, S.C.-native said. “It made me decide to come back to Asheville for my senior year. Unfortunately, I had the injury that slowed me down. However, I am a Sun Devil now.”

Guy also talked about what Arizona State fans can expect from him for the 2026 college baseball season.

“I’m going to really compete next year and show why I chose to come to ASU,” Guy said. “I’m going to let the fans know that I am here [at Arizona State] to compete. I want to win games.”

Up Next – Guy’s future team, Arizona State, is currently in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2021. They are the number three seed in the Los Angeles regional that is hosted by the UCLA Bruins.

The first game of their tournament run will be Friday, May 30, against the UC Irvine Anteaters. The first pitch for this matchup at Jackie Robinson Stadium is scheduled for 9 p.m. EDT. The game can be watched on ESPN2.
