Big news came out of the Charleston, S.C. area within the College of Charleston Cougars’ baseball program. Sam Gjormand is the new general manager for the College of Charleston baseball team. She is the first-ever female general manager in the history of Division I college baseball.

Gjormand was the former director of baseball operations for the team. The Cougars’ head coach Chad Holbrook spoke about the new general manager in a press release from the College of Charleston.

“Sam has proven to be invaluable to our baseball program…She is much more than an administrator; she has an incredible and vast knowledge of the game and provides our coaches incredible baseball insight into Cougar Baseball. She is simply great at her job, and these new responsibilities will only make our program much better. We are lucky to have her at The College.”

Gjormand will be in charge of many different tasks for the team. She will manage the Cougars’ travel accommodations and budget. Most importantly, she will coordinate all fundraising and Name, Image, and Likeness opportunities for College of Charleston baseball.

The Cougars made history in the college baseball world today. World Baseball Network wishes Gjormand the best of luck in her new position.

The College of Charleston Cougars’ next game is Friday, Feb. 21, against the Seton Hall Pirates. The first pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. E.T. at The Ballpark at Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant, S.C.
