Top MLB Draft Prospects In College World Series Final

OMAHA, Neb. – When the College World Series final begins on Saturday night at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, there will be nine players ranked in MLB Pipelines Top 200 prospects for the 2024 Major League Baseball Draft potentially playing in the series.

All five of Tennessee’s position players with at least 20 homers in the 2024 season are ranked, along with righthander Drew Beam, while Texas A&M lefthanded ace Ryan Prager and righty Chris Cortez. Aggies outfielder Braden Montgomery is their highest-ranked prospect on MLB Pipeline’s list, at No. 8, but Montgomery is doubtful to appear after suffering a leg injury in the Super Regional against Oregon.

Tennessee Volunteers (58-12, 3-0 at College World Series)

No. 25 – Christian Moore, 2B – Moore has been hot and cold in Omaha, going 5-for-6 with four runs scored and an RBI on a solo homer in Tennessee’s opener, but went 1-for-4 against UNC. He had a strong showing in the 7-2 win against Florida State that put the Vols in the finals, going 2-for-4 with a triple, two RBI, a run scored, and a walk. He’s the all-time leader in homers at Tennessee with 55 and has batted .385 with 33 homers, 73 RBI, and a 1.276 in 69 games this season.

No. 26 – Billy Amick, 3B – Amick, the heralded transfer out of Clemson, went 2-for-8 with two walks in the Vols’ first two games and had two hits and an RBI against Florida State. He’s been a tough out, batting .313 with 23 homers, 27 walks, and 67 RBI in 2024. 

No. 63 – Drew Beam, RHP – Beam threw five innings, allowing four hits and one run in the Vols’ 6-1 win against North Carolina Sunday, walking two and striking out seven. 

No. 64 – Blake Burke, 1B – Burke went 3-for-5 with three RBI in the Vols’ CWS opener and went 1-for-4 against UNC. His 3-for-5 performance against FSU included a solo homer, and he’s just behind Moore with a .382 average this year.

No. 65 – Kavares Tears, OF – Tears went 2-for-5 with a two-run homer, a walk, two RBI, and two runs scored against Florida State, and followed that up with a 2-for-4 showing against UNC that saw him drive in four runs, three on a three-run homer. He went 0-for-4 against Florida State, batting sixth. This year, he has a .329 average, 20 homers, and 61 RBI.

No. 72 – Dylan Dreiling, OF – Dreiling went 4-for-6 with three RBI in Tennessee’s 12-11 win against Florida State in their CWS opener. He went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks in a 6-1 win against North Carolina on Sunday and went 1-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI against Florida State. Like Tears, he has a .329 average and 20 homers this season, with a few more walks (52) and RBI (68). 

Texas A&M Aggies (52-13, 3-0 at College World Series)

No. 8 – Braden Montgomery, OF – Montgomery has not appeared in the College World Series after suffering an injury to his right leg in the Aggies’ June 8 Super Regional game against Oregon. He was later spotted on crutches in the A&M dugout as the Aggies celebrated their Super Regional win. He hit 27 homers and batted .322 in 61 games and driving in 85 runs in 2024.

No. 59 – Ryan Prager, LHP – Prager was sensational against Kentucky on June 17, throwing 6.2 innings and allowing two hits and one walk, throwing 95 pitches and 65 strikes. Prager is expected to start game one of the College World Series final on Saturday and has a 2.88 ERA over 93.2 innings this season. 

No. 100 – Chris Cortez, RHP – Cortez faced two batters in the Aggies 6-0 win against Florida, entering the game to start the sixth inning. Before exiting the game, he walked Cade Kurland and Tyler Shelnut, each on four pitches. Cortez has been used as both a starter and reliever in 2024 and has a 2.98 ERA in 60.1 innings over 24 appearances.
