The Federacion Colombiana de Béisbol announced their roster for the 2025 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers and submitted them to World Baseball Classic Inc. and Major League Baseball on February 13.

The second event of the 2025 WBC Qualifiers will take place at Veterans Memorial Stadium at Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Ariz., from March 2-6.

China, Brazil, Germany, and Colombia will compete in the second 2025 WBC Qualifiers at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Colombia is ranked at No. 13 in the World Baseball Rankings, which are published by the World Baseball Softball Confederation. Brazil is ranked at No. 23, China is at No. 20 and Germany is at No. 17. Nicaragua ranked at No. 16 and Chinese Taipei ranked at No. 2 in the WBR, qualified for the 2026 WBC.

The president of the FCB is Mauricio Farid Char Yidi.

The Peloteros de Colombia page announced on February 24, the official roster for the Colombian national team at the 2025 WBCQ in Tucson, Ariz.

Peloteros de Colombia also announced that infielder Carlos Arroyo will be replaced by Michael Arroyo on February 24.

Clarena Alevar of ColombiaA90millas, confirmed on February 25, that Michael Arroyo will be on the 2025 WBCQ roster for Colombia.

The official 2025 WBCQ roster for Colombia is also located on WBC Colombia.

Jorge Alfaro, José Quintana, Nabil Crismatt, Carlos Arroyo, and Óscar Mercado will not be on Colombia’s roster for the 2025 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers, as they remain committed to their Major League Baseball organizations and recently signed during spring training.

Río Gómez from Miami, Fla., Pedro Garcia from Maracaibo, Venezuela, Adrián Almeida from Puerto Cabello, Venezuela, and Yapson Gómez from San Cristóbal, Venezuela are the only players on Colombia’s official WBCQ roster who were not born in the country.

The players from Cartagena are Dilson Herrera, Carlos Martinez, Michael Arroyo, Gio Urshela, Reynaldo Rodriguez, Jesus Marriaga, Jean Herrera, Luis Escobar, Jhon Romero, Danis Correa, Julio Teheran, and Reiver Sanmartin that are on the 2025 WBCQ for Colombia.

Francisco Acuña, Fabián Pertuz, and Jair Camargo are the only players from Barranquilla.

Under manager José Mosquera, Colombia’s roster includes minor league prospects from Major League Baseball organizations, players with experience in global professional leagues, current free agents, and those who played in the 2024-25 Liga Profesional de Béisbol Colombia winter league.

Other Colombian-born players on the 2025 WBCQ roster include Brayan Buelvas from Montería, David Lorduy from Sincelejo, and Ezequiel Zabaleta from María La Baja, rounding out the official roster.

Colombia built their official roster for the 2025 WBCQ through scouting at the 2025 Serie De Las Américas in Nicaragua, where Caimanes de Barranquilla, the 2024-25 Liga Profesional de Béisbol Colombia champion, competed against club teams from Argentina, Cuba, Panama, Curaçao, and host nation Nicaragua.

Stats for the 2025 Serie De Las Américas are available at WBSC Nicaragua.

Manager José Mosquera will have pitching coach Dayán Díaz, hitting coach Jair Fernández, bench coach Jhonathan Solano, first base coach Jaime Del Valle, and third base coach Ronald Ramírez on his staff for the 2025 WBCQ.

Colombia last competed in a major international event at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile, where they won the gold medal, defeating Brazil 9-1 at Parque Bicentenario de Cerrillos in Cerrillos, Chile on October 28, 2023.

According to the WBSC, “Manager José Mosquera led Colombia to a bronze medal at the WBSC U-23 Baseball World Cup and selected Fabián Pertuz and Brayan Buelvas from that roster for the 2025 WBCQ.”

Colombia has won three gold medals at international senior events, taking two at the Baseball World Cup in 1947 and 1965, and one at the 1946 Central American and Caribbean Games.

Colombia finished 1-4 in Pool C at the 2023 World Baseball Classic at Chase Field in Phoenix, facing the United States, Great Britain, Mexico, and Canada. Their lone victory came against Mexico, but a 7-5 loss to Great Britain left both teams with the same record. Due to the Team Quality Balance run differential rule from the World Baseball Softball Confederation, Colombia did not automatically qualify for the 2026 WBC and must now earn a spot through the qualifiers.

In the 2017 WBC, Colombia went 1-2 in Pool C at loanDepot Park in Miami, defeating Canada but falling to the United States and the Dominican Republic, which prevented them from advancing to Pool F at Petco Park in San Diego.

Colombia qualified for the 2017 WBC by going 3-0 in the 2016 WBC Qualifier at Estadio Rod Carew in Panama City, earning their spot with wins over Spain and Panama.

At the 2013 WBC Qualifier in 2012, also held at Estadio Rod Carew, Colombia went 1-2, recording their only win against Nicaragua while losing to Brazil and Panama, which kept them out of the 2013 WBC.

Colombia has a deep baseball history, starting with Lou Castro from Medellín, the first Latino-born player in Major League Baseball, who debuted with the Philadelphia Athletics on April 23, 1902.

It took 72 years for another Colombian-born player to reach MLB. Orlando Ramírez debuted on July 6, 1974, with the California Angels, followed by Jackie Gutiérrez on September 16, 1983, with the Boston Red Sox.

Édgar Rentería led a new wave of Colombian MLB talent when he debuted for the Florida Marlins on May 10, 1996. In the 1997 World Series, he delivered the game-winning two-out single in Game 7, driving in the winning run in the bottom of the 11th inning off Cleveland Indians relief pitcher Charles Nagy, securing the Marlins’ first championship in franchise history.

Orlando Cabrera, Jolbert Cabrera, Yamid Haad, Emiliano Fruto, Ernesto Frieri, Julio Teherán, José Quintana, Donovan Solano, Jhonatan Solano, Dilson Herrera, Sugar Ray Marimón, Gio Urshela, Yhonathan Barrios, Tayron Guerrero, Dayán Díaz, Jorge Alfaro, Meibrys Viloria, Harold Ramírez, Óscar Mercado, Luis Escobar, Luis Patiño, Nabil Crismatt, Jhon Romero, Reiver Sanmartín, Jeter Downs, Jordan Díaz, Guillermo Zúñiga, and Gustavo Campero have all contributed to Colombia’s legacy in Major League Baseball over the last 29 years.

Colombia continues to develop rising talent heading into the 2025 WBCQ, including 18 prospects signed to MLB organizations during the most recent international signing period.

Tie-Breaker Scenarios for Two Or More Teams Tied in Standings

If two or more teams have the same record, head-to-head results determine the higher rank. If three or more are tied, the team that allowed the fewest runs per out recorded against the tied teams advances. If still tied, earned runs per out recorded will be used. If a tie remains, the team with the highest batting average in head-to-head games moves on. If no winner is determined, World Baseball Classic Inc. will hold a drawing to decide.
