Colombian IF Jordan Diaz Signs With Naranjeros de Hermosillo For 2024-25 Winter League Season

The Naranjeros de Hermosillo of the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacifico signed Colombian infielder Jordan Diaz as a reinforcement for the 2024-25 winter league season on August 26.

Diaz, 24, was born in Monteria, Colombia, and has played two seasons with the Oakland Athletics from 2022-23.

Diaz played in 105 games with 344 plate appearances in his two seasons in Oakland. He hit .227, ripped 73 hits, 12 doubles, 10 home runs, 28 RBI, 19 walks, 76 strikeouts, and a .635 OPS.

This season with Triple-A Las Vegas, Diaz played in 94 games with 401 plate appearances, batting .307, dialing 111 hits, 19 doubles, one triple, 21 home runs, 79 RBI, 33 walks, 74 strikeouts, and a .908 OPS.

Diaz has played most of his games defensively at second base in the 2024 regular season, starting in 23 games through 185.1 innings, 66 chances, 20 putouts, 46 assists, no errors, and turning 11 double plays.

He also started 59 games as the designated hitter, four games at first base and three at third base in 2024.

Last winter league season, Diaz played with Vaqueros de Monteria in the Liga Profesional De Béisbol Colombia in 14 games, hitting .220 with 50 at-bats, smacking 11 hits, three doubles, two RBI, seven walks, and striking out nine times.

According to Baseball Reference, Diaz played five seasons in Colombia with Vaqueros de Monteria from 2021-24 and participated in the Caribbean Series for Colombia in 2020, 2021, and 2023.

In his five seasons in winter leagues, Diaz played 75 games with his average at .288 in 332 plate appearances, ripping 89 hits, 20 doubles, one triple, six home runs, 53 RBI, swiping seven bases, 36 walks, 31 strikeouts, and a .846 OPS.

Diaz, in his eight seasons between the winter leagues, minor leagues, and Major League Baseball, has played in 690 games with 2,800 plate appearances, hitting .288, cranking 734 hits, 157 doubles, seven triples, 85 home runs, 422 RBI, 14 stolen bases, 194 walks, 439 strikeouts, and a .798 OPS.

The Naranjeros de Hermosillo will play their first home game of the 2024-25 regular season on October 11 against Yaquis de Obregon at 8:30 p.m. EST at Estadio Fernando Valenzuela in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico.
