Julio Teherán, pitcher for Team Colombia, throws during the 2025 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers.

Colombia got their 2025 World Baseball Classic Qualifier experience off on the right foot after a 5-0 win over Brazil. The pitching was the story in the game due to it being a shutout.

Here is a look at Colombia’s high-quality pitching in their first game in Tucson, Ariz.

Major League baseball veteran Julio Teheran got the start for the Colombians. He went deep into the game going six innings. Although his start was not dominant, he only allowed one hit to the Brazilian lineup.

He also had four strikeouts in the game and walked no batters, giving Brazil no form of offense whatsoever.

Ezequiel Zabaleta came on in relief after Teheran exited. Despite giving up two hits, he struck out two batters in his one inning of work, he provided.

Former Cincinnati Reds pitchers Reiver Sanmartin and Pedro Garcia finished the final two innings. They combined for no hits, walks, and runs and had three strikeouts between them.

Colombia’s pitching staff combined for nine strikeouts in their shut-out effort. Brazil could only get two base runners into scoring position during the contest.

World Baseball Network’s Leif Skodnick pinned Colombia as the team to beat in Tuscon during this set of WBC qualifier games. It sure looked that way thanks to some lights out pitching.
