Colorado Rockies Sign IF Terrin Vavra, P Domingo Acevedo Away From Piratas de Campeche

The Piratas de Campeche placed infielder Terrin Vavra and pitcher Domingo Acevedo on the reserve list over the past five days.

The pair of players are headed to the Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball, who signed them to minor league deals, according to a post on X by BeisbolPuro.

Vavra, 28, appeared in five games for the Piratas thus far in 2026, recording seven hits in 19 at-bats with a double and three RBIs. The infielder has played 68 career Major League games, all with Baltimore, across parts of three seasons, batting .252/.329/.302 in 139 at-bats with a homer and 17 RBIs and went 3-for-13 in four appearances for Czechia at the 2026 World Baseball Classic. In MLB, Vavra has played second base, third base, and right and left field.

The signing of Vavra shores up the depth chart on the left side of the infield for Colorado after they traded Nicky Lopez to the Chicago Cubs for cash considerations. Lopez hadn’t appeared in a game for the Rockies. At third base, the Rockies have used Kyle Karros as the everyday third baseman, and could use starting shortstop Ezequiel Tovar or utilityman Willi Castro at the hot corner if necessary. Karros hasn’t been hitting thus far; through 30 games, he’s batting .190/.330/.262 with three RBIs, and signing Vavra, who will likely head to either Double-A Hartford or Triple-A Albuquerque, keeps a third baseman with some MLB experience at the ready should Karros not start hitting.

Acevedo, 32, is a right-hander who appeared in 89 games for the Oakland A’s as a reliever from 2021-23, posting a 4.09 ERA, 74 strikeouts and 23 walks in 88 innings. In 30 LMB appearances with Jalisco, Yucatan, and Campeche over the last three years, he holds a 4.93 ERA over 104 innings, making 30 appearances and 20 starts, and has played the past two winter seasons with the Leones del Escogido of LIDOM. He’s made two starts, throwing 10 innings with a 4.50 ERA, 13 strikeouts, and two walks thus far this season for Campeche.

The Rockies put righty starter Ryan Feltner on the 15-day Injured List on April 24 with right ulnar nerve inflammation and have been shuttling Blas Castano, Seth Halvorsen, and Jimmy Herget between Triple-A, the MLB roster, and the restricted list. Acevedo adds a depth arm in the minors and could see some time in Denver should the Rockies continue to churn through pitchers.
