CPBL Organizations Gearing Up for 2026 Season With New Signings

The Chinese Professional Baseball League’s Opening Day in Taiwan still remains months away, giving free agents adequate time to find a new home or return to their former club in 2026.

With permission from their club, CPBL players can transition to other professional leagues worldwide after three years of service time.

Despite interest from Major League Baseball’s Los Angeles Dodgers, former Wei Chuan Dragons starting pitcher Hsu Jo-Hsi inked a three-year deal with Nippon Professional Baseball’s Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks.

Hsu was one of the top CPBL free agents available, but plenty of others recently signed new contracts to remain in Taiwan.

Home Run Champion Resigns With Hawks – Puerto Rico-born first baseman Steven Moya is in agreement with the TSG Hawks on a one-year, $695,000 contract for the 2026 CPBL season. Focus Taiwan reported Moya’s new deal with the Hawks on Tuesday.

Moya, 34, led the league in home runs the previous two seasons, joining the Hawks for their inaugural season in the CPBL in 2024. The former Detroit Tigers outfielder hit 30 homers two seasons ago and 25 roundtrippers this past season.

The 6-foot-7 left-handed hitter transitioned from the outfield to a primary first base role when he first arrived in Japan in 2018 with the Chunichi Dragons.

Guardians Sign Catcher to Seven-Year Deal – The Fubon Guardians announced the signing of veteran catcher Lin Dai-An on Dec. 5. CPBL Stats on X reports that Lin’s pact with the Guardians is for $1.87 million across the next seven years.

Lin is the cousin of former MLB infielder Tzu-Wei Lin, who currently plays for the CPBL’s Rakuten Monkeys. He hit .208/.257/.319 with five home runs and a .576 OPS in 70 games in 2025 with the Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions, the club he had spent the first 11 years of his career with.

Lin cracked Taiwan’s 2023 World Baseball Classic roster, but he did not record a plate appearance after posting a .551 OPS the season prior.

Uni-Lions Resign 10-Year Veteran Corner Outfielder – The Lions re-signed 31-year-old corner outfielder Su Chih-Chieh to a four-year deal worth $1.12 million, per a report from CPBL Stats on X.

Su began his career with the Lions in 2016 and hit .252/.302/.407 with five homers and a .708 OPS in 70 games in 2025. He is a four-time CPBL All-Star who accomplished four consecutive seasons with 17 or more homers from 2017-20, including a 28-home run campaign in 2020.

The former CPBL Gold Glove Award winner nearly missed the entirety of 2022 with a right knee injury, but appears to be healthy now. He went 0-for-16 at the plate during the 2019 Premier12 with Taiwan, but is a valuable run producer in the heart of the Lions’ lineup.
