Creighton Head Coach Ed Servais Retires After Long, Successful Career

On Sunday, Creighton’s loss to Arkansas in the Fayetteville regional marked the end of Ed Servais’ long coaching career. He will no longer be coaching the Blue Jays after 22 years in Omaha.

Servais began his head coaching stint in 1988 at Viterbo University at the junior college level. He then left to coach another junior college, St. Mary’s University of Minnesota, for seven years from 1989-95. Between Viterbo and St. Mary’s, Servais won 182 games.

After some time as an assistant coach for both Iowa State and Creighton, the Blue Jays named Servais as the head coach before the 2004 season. This hire came after the previous head coach, Jack Dahm, left.

From there, during his 22 seasons with Creighton, Servais won 721 games. He led the Blue Jays to six regular season titles and five conference tournament titles in the Big East and Missouri Valley Conferences.

He was named coach of the year six times during his long tenure as well.

As for NCAA Tournament appearances, Creighton made the NCAA Tournament six times with Servais at the helm. This means he is responsible for half of the NCAA Tournament trips the team has in its program’s history.

This season, the Blue Jays finished with 43 wins, which is the fifth time Creighton reached a 40-win season with Servais as head coach.

Creighton only had three losing seasons during the 22 years Servais was there.

The coaching legend finishes with a grand total of 880 wins.

Up Next – With Servais officially in retirement, a new era has begun for Creighton baseball.

Former South Carolina coach Mark Kingston was brought into the program in June of 2024 and has been an associate head coach. He will take over head coaching duties in 2026 as he has also been labelled as the “coach-in-waiting.”
