CTBC Brothers Take 3-1 Series Lead, Defeat U-Lions 6-4 in Game 4

The CTBC Brothers are now one win away from becoming Taiwan Series champions once again after defeating the Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions 6-4 in Game 4. The game was played before a sold-out crowd in Tainan, Taiwan.

The Brothers were able to strike early in the first inning, all with two outs in the inning. After a double from Chen Chun Hsiu, Chen Tzu Hao was able to bloop a pitch right into no-man’s-land in shallow left-center field to get the Brothers on the board first. Two batters later, Tseng Song En was able to drive a liner just past the second baseman into right field to get ahead 2-0 after the first inning.

As for the U-Lions, they were able to get three runs on the board in the first inning. Chen Chieh Hsien drove an RBI double into the left-center field gap to score Chiu Chih Cheng all the way from first to get the U-Lions in the run column early. Lin An Ko and Lin Dai An also provided RBIs in the first inning to help get the U-Lions ahead in the first inning, as they would take a 3-2 lead.

The Brothers were able to tack on one run each in the fourth and fifth innings, tying the game in the fourth inning courtesy of an RBI single from Yueh Tung Hua. The following inning, Chen Tzu Hao provided a solo home run, with the right fielder almost making a game-saving play with robbing the homer, that Chen even thought the right fielder had made the play. With runners on second and third in the sixth inning and the U-Lions turning to their bullpen, Yueh Cheng Hua lined a single into right field to score Wang Wei Chen and Kao Yu Chieh to extend the Brother’s lead to 6-3.

Cheng Kai Wen got the start for the Brothers, as he tossed five and a third innings, allowing ten hits and three earned runs while striking out two batters. As for the U-Lions, Kuo Chun Lin got the ball for Game 4; he threw four innings, allowing seven hits and one walk while punching out four batters.

Now, the Brothers increased their lead in the Taiwan Series 3-1, and one more victory will make them Taiwan Series champions. The series will shift to Taichung, as the Brothers will now claim home-field advantage heading into Game 5 of the Taiwan Series. The first pitch is set for 6:35 AM EST on October 25.
