Cuba Reclaims No.1 Spot in Baseball5 Rankings After World Cup Victory

Cuba added another trophy to their collection. The new rankings were posted after the completion of the latest Baseball5 World Cup, and Cuba reclaims its top spot at No. 1 in the WBSC/Konami Baseball5 World Rankings. The Baseball5 World Cup Finals took place in Hong Kong, China.

Also, winning the Baseball5 title in 2022, Cuba added 1,380 points, taking them to 1,920 for the year and 4,327 overall in a span of four years. This helped Cuba pass Chinese Taipei, which fell to second in the World Rankings. This marks the first time since the Baseball5 Rankings were published that Cuba has held the number one spot.

Not performing their strongest at the Baseball5 World Cup, Chinese Taipei finished in fifth place, collecting 797 points, totaling 4,113 points. Japan won the silver medal at the World Cup, moving to third from fifth in the ranking, adding 689 points. Japan has a total of 3,424 points. France claimed bronze at the World Cup, as they remain ranked at number four with 3,404 points. Tunisia would slip in the ranking after placing seventh in Hong Kong. Mexico climbed two sports to a record-high number six after a solid sixth-place finish at the World Cup.

Australia and Venezuela were two of the biggest movers in the latest rankings update. Australia went from 39th to 32nd, while Venezuela rose five spots from 12th to seventh place. As for the hosts of the World Cup, China moved up from 17th to 14th.

Baseball5 will only continue to grow larger and stronger. The growth will be tremendous, with the introduction of two new programs, Lesotho and Botswana, which appeared for the first time ever in the rankings. Lesotho ranks 47th, while Botswana lists at 50th.
