The MLB released a statement earlier today that they have suspended Anhuar Garcia, a pitcher in the Chicago Cubs organization, for violating their drug and prevention treatment program. Garcia tested positive for Methenolone, a performance enhancing substance, and has received a 60 game suspension.

Garcia, just 21 years of age, was signed by the Cubs on Dec. 15, 2024 for $10,000 after spending time with Leones de Yucutan of the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol (LMB) and Mayos de Navojoa of the Liga ARCO Mexicana del Pacífico (LAMP). Garcia is originally from Navojoa, Mexico, and played for Mayos on two separate occasions.
In 2025, he has pitched in seven games for the Cubs Arizona Complex League team. He had posted a 1-3 record and a 5.91 ERA in 32 innings pitched.
Garcia becomes the most recent player suspended for Methenolone usage since Daniel McCutchen was suspended 50 games in 2013. Alex Rodriguez and Barry Bonds also tested positive for Methenolone during their careers.
This is the second suspension the MLB has issued this season for performance enhancing drug usage. Jurickson Profar of the Atlanta Braves was suspended 80 games on March 31, for using human chorionic gonadotropin, a substance used to maintain performance, size, and testosterone production. Due to this, Profar is ineligible to play in the postseason if the Braves were to make it.
Garcia will miss the remainder of the ACL season, as the season ends in late July. Garcia could join a higher Cubs affiliate still playing if the Cubs decide to reintegrate him into their ranks in 2025.
