Curacao Goats Win Curacao Professional Baseball League

The Curacao Professional Baseball League (CPB) season has concluded. Here is everything that went down during the playoffs, which saw the Curacao Goats win it all.

Curacao Goats Defeat Willemstad Cannons in Semi-Final Game 6-4

Much like how the regular season ended, the Curacao Goats and Willemstad Cannons played each other in an explosive hitting game. There were 17 hits between the two teams.

The Goats jumped out to an early 3-1 in the first inning after RBI knocks from Jonathan Schoop, Phildrick Llewellyn, and Gedionne Marlin.

The Cannons later responded with a big fourth inning, scoring three runs themselves. Mairoshendrick Martinus hit a three-run homer, and the game was tied 4-4 heading to the fifth inning.

The Goats got the last offensive spurt that pushed them ahead in the sixth inning. Clay Winklaar got a run in on a fielder’s choice, and then Raysheandall Michel scored Denzel Gregg on a single. This gave Curacao a 6-4 lead, and they would go on to win the game.

J’Rujeanon Isenia earned a nice save for the Goats and struck out three batters in the seventh inning.

Curacao Goats Win the Championship in a 12-7 Victory over the Curacao Suns

The Goats continued their Cinderella run through the CPB playoffs with a championship win over the Curacao Suns 12-7.

It was another explosive offensive game, as both teams had 11 hits each.

A low-scoring start quickly ended in the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings as the Suns took a 7-3 lead.

A Donovan Antonia single scored a run in the fourth inning and then Ortwin Pieternella Vargas knocked in two runs himself on a double. Didi Gregorius got in on the action in the fifth inning with an RBI knock and then scored a run himself.

However, the Goats would explode with nine runs across the final three innings. Juremi Profar got the scoring spurt going in the seventh inning with a three-run home run, making it a 7-6 game.

In the eighth inning, the Goats got more runs off a couple of wild pitches and a sac fly from Darren Seferina. Heading into the ninth inning, it was now a 9-7 game with the Goats winning.

Insurance runs were added in the ninth inning as Marlin hit a two-run triple, scoring Profar and Llewellyn. Another run was added on for the Goats via a wild pitch. The score was 12-7, which would be the final score when it was all said and done.

Isenia had another big pitching outing for the Goats, earning the win while striking out two batters. Angelo Palumbo got tacked with the loss for the Suns as he gave up six earned runs in 1.1 innings of work.

What’s Next?

As champions of the CPB, the Curacao Goats will represent the country of Curacao in the Serie de las Americas. The event will be held from January 24-30 in Nicaragua and include other countries besides Curacao, such as Colombia, Cuba, Panama, and others.
