OMAHA, Neb. – Winds of 20 mph and temperatures pushing 100 degrees fahrenheit are forecasted for Saturday and Sunday in Omaha, Neb., when games one and two of the 2025 Men’s College World Series Final are scheduled.
The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for an area including eastern Nebraska, western Iowa, and parts of Minnesota and Wisconsin through 7 p.m. CDT Sunday evening. A Hazardous Weather Outlook issued by the Omaha Valley office of the NWS stated that starting on Friday, people in the area could expect, “heat this afternoon with heat indices of 105 to 111, with similar values also expected on Saturday. Strong southerly winds with gusts up to 35 to 45 mph possible this afternoon into early evening and again Saturday afternoon and early evening.”
On Saturday night, the NWS Omaha Valley office forecasted winds out of the south at 16 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph. Sunday afternoon is predicted to bring winds ut of the south at 16 to 22 mph with gusts as high as 34 mph.
Charles Schwab Field, where the College World Series finals will be played, faces southeast, so a wind out of the south would blow across the field from the right field corner toward the third base dugout, while a southwest wind would blow across the diamond from right field and first base toward left field and third base.
“I didn’t hear you say anything about lightning, right? Then I’m good with everything else,” said LSU head coach Jay Johnson at Friday’s press conference preceding the best-of-three championship series. “It’s just part of the deal. We talked about it after the Monday/Tuesday game with UCLA. It’s like, if I could control the weather, I wouldn’t be a college baseball coach; I’d probably be doing something else.”
Unfortunately for Johnson and the Tigers, as well as the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers and college baseball fans, the NWS predicts thunderstorms are possible for Monday evening, when game three of the series would be played if necessary.
