Mexico has steamrolled into the 2025 Caribbean Series championship in Mexicali. Their pitching has supported this run, and right-hander David Reyes has had some big performances.
The Los Mochis-native opened the tournament for Mexico as the starter on Jan. 31 and did not disappoint. In an 8-1 win over Puerto Rico, he went seven innings, giving up one earned run, four hits, one walk, and struck out four batters.

Reyes found himself pitching against Puerto Rico again on Wednesday. This time, it was for higher stakes in a semifinal game as the winner would move on to play the Dominican Republic in the final.
It was a well-pitched effort again from the righty. He gave up just three hits and no runs in six innings of work. Despite a low number of strikeouts in the game, he did enough to keep the game in Mexico’s control throughout most of it.
Mexico went on to win 3-1 and will play in the Caribbean Series championship on Friday. A large part of this is thanks to two wins on the back of Reyes.
He has spent time playing in Mexico for the Liga Mexicana de Béisbol (LMB) and Liga Mexicana del Pacífico (LAMP) since 2011. The past several seasons have been spent playing for El Águila de Veracruz and Águilas de Mexicali.
The 2025 Caribbean Series championship match between Mexico and the Dominican Republic will be held on Friday, Feb. 7, at 10 p.m. E.T.
