Juan Carlos Gamboa got another championship ring with the Diablos Rojos del Mexico, and now, he’s got more hardware.

Gamboa, the slick-fielding shortstop for the Diablos, was named the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol’s Defensive Player of the Year for 2025 after posting the best single-season fielding percentage for a shortstop in LMB history with a .993 mark. In 67 games, 66 of them as a starter, Gamboa made 294 throws, 205 assists, 87 putouts, and only two errors. He broke the fielding percentage record for a shortstop set by Remigio Díaz, who posted a .990 mark in 2005 playing for the Olmecas de Tabasco.

For the second straight year, the Defensive Player of the Year went to a member of the Diablos after Franklin Barreto won the award in 2024.

Also nominated for Defensive Player of the Year were Yamaico Navarro of Tabasco, odolfo Amador and Aldrem Corredor of the Acereros de Monclova, Nick Torres and Didi Gregorius of the Algodoneros de Union laguna, Carlos Pérez of the Rieleros de Aguascalientes and the Diablos Rojos, Yonathan Daza, Reynaldo Rodríguez, and Alexi Amarista of the Guerreros de Oaxaca, Samar Leyva and Lorenzo Cedrola of the Pericos de Puebla, Sócrates Brito of El Águila de Veracruz, Christopher Escárrega of the Sultanes de Monterrey, Ángel Reyes of the Rieleros de Aguascalientes, and Webster Rivas of the Leones de Yucatan.
