According to Venezuelan baseball journalist Georgeny Perez, reported on October 9, the Boston Red Sox denied 22-year-old outfielder Jhostynxon Garcia to play for the Navegantes del Magallanes in the 2025-26 Liga Venezolana de Beisbol Profesional regular season.

Garcia — nicknamed “The Password” by fans on social media due to the spelling of his first name — made his MLB debut for Boston on August 22, 2025, on the road against the New York Yankees.
The Red Sox had recalled him from Triple-A Worcester after placing outfielder Wilyer Abreu on the 10-day injured list with a right calf strain.
“He swings a lot,” manager Alex Cora said. “Drives the ball to right-center, can do that with two strikes. He’s a great defender and a good baserunner.”
Boston Red Sox prospect Jhostynxon García won’t suit up for Navegantes del Magallanes this winter, per @GeorgenyPerez.
A reminder of how MLB clubs often limit Latin American prospects from winter ball — even when home fans are waiting to see them play.

The Navegantes del Magallanes will play their first game of the 2025-26 LVBP season at home at Estadio José Bernardo Pérez in Valencia, Venezuela against the Caribes de Anzoátegui at 7 p.m. EDT on October 16.
All games for the 2025-26 LVBP season can be streamed on BeisbolPlay.com with a paid subscription until the final out of their best-of-seven championship series in January, prior to the start of the 2026 Caribbean Series in Caracas, Venezuela at Estadio Simón Bolívar and in Macuto at Estadio Fórum La Guaira in late January and early February before pitchers and catchers report for the 2026 Major League Baseball season.
Garcia has not played a single season in the winter leagues as of yet during his professional career and was ranked No. 3 in the Top 30 MLBPipeline.com organization list in the 2025 season. Garcia was also ranked on the Top 100 MLBPipeline.com prospect list at No. 85 to end 2025.
Garcia has been with the Red Sox organization since he signed as an international free agent on July 2, 2019. The right-handed slugger from San Fernando de Apure, Venezuela spent most of the 2025 season between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester.
Garcia played in 114 games between Double-A Portland and Triple-A Worcester and batted .267 with 489 plate appearances, cracking 116 hits, 17 doubles, four triples, 21 home runs, 75 RBI, swiping seven bases, 45 strikeouts, and a .810 OPS during the 2025 season.

Garcia also started in 17 games in right field in Portland and Worcester, through 149 innings, with 33 chances, 31 putouts, two errors and a .939 fielding percentage. When Garcia was with Boston he played in four games and started in three games between left field and right field, through 25 innings, three chances, three putouts and no errors.
Last offseason, the Red Sox selected Garcia’s contract from the Portland Sea Dogs on November 19, 2024. He played in 11 games during the 2025 Grapefruit League season and hit .048 with 21 at-bats, recording one hit and striking out 10 times before being sent down to Double-A Portland on March 7.
In 2024, Garcia became a standout prospect in the Red Sox farm system with being selected for the Baseball America High Class A All-Star Award with High-A Greenville and the MiLB Awards All-MiLB Prospect First Team with Double-A Portland.
During the 2024 season, Garcia played in 107 games with Low-A Salem, High-A Greenville, and Double-A Portland. At all three levels, Garcia hit .286 with 458 plate appearances, pounding 118 hits, 24 doubles, five triples, 23 home runs, 66 RBI, 17 stolen bases, 33 walks, 99 strikeouts, and a .892 OPS.
Garcia did not make his professional debut until the 2021 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic that canceled the 2020 minor league season. He played at the Dominican Summer League level with the Red Sox Blue team in his first professional season and batted .281/.424/.481 in 45 games with 170 plate appearances, smacking 38 hits, seven doubles, four triples, four home runs, 27 RBI, five stolen bases, 33 walks and 33 strikeouts.
In his five seasons in the minors, Garcia has played in 370 games with a lifetime average of .261 in 1,552 plate appearances, collecting 352 hits, 67 doubles, 21 triples, 55 home runs, 209 RBI, 42 stolen bases, 166 walks, 379 strikeouts, and a .815 OPS.
The Red Sox front office with John Henry, Thomas C. Werner, Sam Kennedy, and Craig Breslow will have to evaluate the Red Sox outfield depth chart prior to the start of the 2026 season to see where Garcia could possibly fit on the 40-man roster after losing to the New York Yankees in the American League Wild Card Series on the road in three games.
Jarren Duran signed a one-year contract on January 17 worth $3.85 million with Boston. In 2026, Duran will earn a base salary of $8 million while carrying a dead cap value of $100,000. Duran has an arbitration year in 2027 and 2028 before he becomes an unrestricted free agent in 2029.
Red Sox up-and-coming player Roman Anthony signed on August 7 for an eight-year, $130 million contract extension with the Boston Red Sox, which runs from 2026 through 2033 and includes a club option for 2034. Anthony made his MLB debut on June 9 at home against the Tampa Bay Rays, prior to him landing on the 10-day injured list on September 3 with a right oblique strain.
Ceddanne Rafaela signed on April 10, 2024, to an eight-year, $50 million contract extension with the Red Sox, and it will run through the 2031 season, including a team option for 2032.
Wilyer Abreu is currently on a pre-arbitration contract with Boston through the 2029 season and will earn an estimated salary of $820,000 for 2026. The Red Sox have not yet offered him an extension beyond the current arbitration-eligible period. Abreu has been with the Red Sox since he was traded from the Houston Astros on August 1, 2022, which resulted in Enmanuel Valdez heading to New England and Christian Vázquez going to the Lone Star State.
Garcia will have to be evaluated closely by Boston’s front office during spring training, prior to the start of the 2026 regular season against minor league and MLB pitching in the Grapefruit League season, in order for him to have a shot at making the Opening Day roster.
