“The players, front office, and staff of the Dodgers are absolutely heartbroken over the devastation of the fires in and around Los Angeles,” the organization said in a statement. “We are working closely with community partners and impacted areas and look forward to announcing more about our immediate efforts and our ongoing work in the coming days. We are grateful to all first responders who have been on the front lines of this tragedy, and we grieve with the thousands of families who have lost their homes and possessions, including those within the Dodgers organization.”

The Angels added: “We are heartbroken for those in our local community who have been impacted by the devasting fires across Los Angeles. Thank you to all of our courageous firefighters and Southern California first responders who are working tirelessly to protect and preserve our communities.”

The Dodgers and Angels and all Los Angeles sports teams announced a partnership with Fanatics to sell an LA Strong tee shirt, the proceeds of which will go to the American Red Cross and the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation.

B.A.T. Ready to Lend Assistance

MLB’s Baseball Assistance Team (B.A.T.) is offering help to baseball families in need of assistance following the devastating California wildfires that have ravaged the region.

“To those baseball families impacted by the California fires and facing financial hardships: we’re here to help you,” wrote Erik Nilson, Vice President and Executive Director of B.A.T., on LinkedIn. “Please contact us if you need assistance.”

Families needing assistance can call 212-931-7822, email BAT@MLB.com, or visit their website.

B.A.T. was formed in 1986 by former Major League Baseball players to confidentially help members of the baseball family who needed assistance with nowhere else to turn.

Dodgers Players Step Up

Local ballplayers have started offering aid to relief efforts as well.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, Dodgers All-Star Freddie Freeman and his wife, Chelsea, have committed $300,000 to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, the Pasadena Fire Department, and the Salvation Army.

Through his CT3 Foundation, Chris Taylor and his wife, Mary, are matching donations of up to $5,000 to support the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation.
