Dominican LHP Jordi Martínez Signs With Leones de Yucatán for 2026 LMB Season

As Liga Mexicana de Beisbol clubs begin reshaping their rosters ahead of the 2026 season, the Leones de Yucatán have added organizational depth and experience to their bullpen.

The Leones de Yucatán announced the signing of Dominican left-handed relief pitcher Jordi Martínez for the 2026 LMB season on January 21.

Martínez, 25, is a native of Santiago, Dominican Republic, and brings six seasons of minor league experience after spending his entire professional career in the Philadelphia Phillies organization.

The left-hander originally signed with Philadelphia during the international signing period on January 22, 2018, and went on to pitch across multiple levels of the minor leagues, reaching Double-A Reading during his tenure with the organization.

Most recently, Martínez returned to competitive action during the 2025–26 LIDOM season with Tigres del Licey, appearing in six games out of the bullpen after not pitching during the 2024 season and remaining a free agent throughout 2025.

In his six relief appearances for Licey, Martínez did not record a decision and did not allow an earned run, throwing 5.1 innings while allowing three hits and three walks, and striking out four batters.

During his last affiliated season in 2024, Martínez split time between the Florida Complex League, High-A Jersey Shore, and Double-A Reading, though his year was interrupted by multiple stints on the injured list.

Across all three levels in 2024, Martínez went 1–2 with a 5.79 ERA in eight appearances, throwing 9.1 innings while allowing 11 hits, six earned runs, one home run, and two walks, while striking out 16 batters. He was placed on the full-season injured list on June 14, 2024.

Martínez elected free agency on November 4, 2024, one day after being activated from the full-season injured list. In total, he reached the Double-A level during his six seasons in the Phillies organization but did not advance beyond that level.

Across his six minor league seasons, Martínez appeared in 103 games, including 35 starts, compiling a career record of 10–15 with a 4.14 ERA, four saves, and 240 strikeouts over 230.2 innings, while posting a 1.374 WHIP.

The Leones de Yucatán are coming off a disappointing 2025 campaign, finishing 37–45 and placing eighth in the Zona Sur, missing the postseason under former manager Eliezer Alonzo.

Following the season, the organization made a managerial change, hiring Sergio Gastélum to lead the club into the 2026 season.

Yucatán will open the 2026 LMB regular season at home on April 17 against the Bravos de León at Parque Kukulcán Alamo, with game times yet to be announced.
