Dominican Utilityman Pablo Reyes Signs Minor League Deal With New York Mets After Yankees Stint

The New York Mets signed a minor league deal with Dominican utilityman Pablo Reyes, team beat writer Anthony DiComo reported on June 21.

Reyes was assigned to Triple-A Syracuse on June 21.

The 31-year-old right-handed hitter from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, was designated for assignment by the New York Yankees on June 16 and was later sent to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on June 18, prior to electing free agency on June 19.

Spring Training and Winter League Performance

Reyes has played seven seasons in Major League Baseball, beginning with the Pittsburgh Pirates from 2018 to 2019. He was suspended for the entire 2020 season due to a performance-enhancing drug violation before signing a minor league contract with the Milwaukee Brewers on January 7, 2021, which included an invite to spring training.

Reyes spent two seasons with Milwaukee from 2021 to 2022, then played for the Boston Red Sox from 2023 to 2024. He was traded to the Mets for cash considerations on May 25, 2024, before signing with the Yankees on a minor league deal on November 12, 2024.

With the Yankees, Reyes played in 25 games and batted .194/.242/.226 over 34 plate appearances. He recorded six hits, one double, two RBI, one stolen base, two walks, and 10 strikeouts before being designated for assignment.

Defensively for the Yankees, Reyes appeared in right field in eight games and one start, at second base in six games and four starts, and at third base in five games and two starts..

During spring training, Reyes played in 19 games and hit .311/.418/.467 over 45 at-bats, collecting 14 hits, one double, two home runs, five RBI, nine walks, and 10 strikeouts.

In the 2024-25 LIDOM regular season, Reyes played in 26 games for the Toros del Este and batted .258/.327/.360, tallying 23 hits, five doubles, two triples, six RBI, four stolen bases, nine walks, and 20 strikeouts.

Reyes also spent time in Triple-A during the 2024 season, appearing for both Triple-A Worcester with the Red Sox and Triple-A Syracuse with the Mets.

2024 MLB Production and Career Totals

Reyes played in 68 games with both the Red Sox and the Mets and hit .300 with 267 plate appearances, notching 69 hits, seven doubles, two triples, 12 home runs, 42 RBI, 15 stolen bases, 33 walks, 39 strikeouts, and a .889 OPS.

He played in 22 games with the Red Sox and the Mets and batted .183/.234/.217 in 64 plate appearances, piling 11 hits, two doubles, five RBI, one stolen base, three walks, and striking out 19 times. 

In his seven seasons in the majors, Reyes has a lifetime average of .245, while playing in 259 games with 64 plate appearances, 135 hits, 26 doubles, two triples, eight home runs, 56 RBI, 14 RBI, 47 walks, 114 strikeouts, and a .648 OPS.
