Draci Brno improved to 3-2, while the Guggenberger Legionäre advanced to 4-1 as both teams secured decisive victories in the Baseball European Champions Cup.
Against Eagles Praha, Draci Brno jumped out to a large lead in the bottom of the second inning, scoring five runs in the frame. Martin Červinka hit an RBI single to put Draci Brno on the board first. Arnošt Dubový followed with a single to deep left, scoring two runners to help extend the lead.
Alex Monsalve extended the Draci Brno lead further in the bottom of the fifth with a two-run home run.
Jhenderson Hurtado pitched well for Draci Brno, keeping Eagles Praha scoreless through six innings. He allowed three hits, struck out nine batters, and posted an ERA of 1.20.
Zýma Petr broke the scoring drought for Eagles Praha with a solo home run, but that would be the only run as Draci Brno reliever Čapka Filip closed the game with three strikeouts over the final two innings, ending it 7-1.
In another blowout, Guggenberger Legionäre defeated Heidenheim Heideköpfe convincingly.
Guggenberger Legionäre struck first in the top of the second as Patrice Daniel hit an RBI single. Heidenheim Heideköpfe responded in the bottom of the second, with Larry Shawn hitting a solo home run to tie the game at 1.
From there, Guggenberger Legionäre maintained their momentum with RBI singles from Alexander Schmidt and Edoardo Cornelli in the third and fourth innings, respectively.
Guggenberger Legionäre continued their offensive dominance, scoring four more runs over the next four innings. A defensive error by Guggenberger Legionäre in the bottom of the eighth added one more run for Heidenheim Heideköpfe, but Guggenberger Legionäre closed the game with an additional run to end it 8-2.
Eagles Praha and Heidenheim Heideköpfe will have the opportunity to get back in the win column, as each team will rematch their opponents from today, Aug. 21.
