On Friday, August 8, outfielder Drew Gilbert made his Major League Baseball debut for the San Francisco Giants.

Despite not getting a hit in four at-bats, Gilbert made a fantastic sliding catch in the third inning while playing in left field.

In the end, he was a part of a 5-0 win for the San Francisco Giants as they defeated the Washington Nationals.

According to MLB Pipeline, Gilbert is ranked 13th in the San Francisco Giants’ farm system.

That same Tennessee team that Gilbert was a part of won both the SEC regular season title and conference tournament title as well.

In the 2022 MLB Draft, Gilbert was selected 28th overall by the Houston Astros. He was acquired by the New York Mets along with Ryan Clifford in exchange for Justin Verlander on Aug. 1, 2023, and then dealt by the Mets to the Giants on July 30, 2025 with Jose Butto and Blake Tidwell in exchange for Tyler Rogers.
