BOSTON (AP) — Dylan Cease took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and finished with a one-hit complete game, George Springer hit a three-run homer to highlight a five-run third and the Toronto Blue Jays cooled off the Boston Red Sox 6-0 on Saturday.
Ernie Clement added an RBI double and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. a run-scoring single in the big inning for Toronto, which of the three-game series Friday. Guerrero drove in two runs.
It was just the second loss in 18 games for the Red Sox, who matched an 80-year-old club record with 15 straight wins before .
Cease (7-5), , gave up a leadoff double to Andruw Monasterio in the sixth. The only previous baserunner came on a four-pitch walk to Caleb Durbin in the fifth.
Cease struck out 12, including the final six outs, and walked three en route to his fourth career complete game and shutout, his first since a he threw a no-hitter for the San Diego Padres at Washington on July 25, 2024.
On July 8, the 30-year-old right-hander had at San Francisco.
Mixing a sharp slider with a changeup and fastball from the sunshine into the shadows early in the game, Cease had very little hard contact. Besides Monasterio’s line double down the left-field line, Masataka Yoshida hit a medium-deep fly to center.
Boston starter Sonny Gray (12-2) was tagged for five runs on 10 hits, six coming in the third.
The last visiting pitcher to throw a no-hitter in Fenway Park was Jim Bunning on July 20, 1958.
ROYALS 3, TIGERS 2
DETROIT (AP) — Nick Loftin hit a tie-breaking home run in the ninth inning as Kansas City rallied for a victory over Detroit.
The Royals trailed 2-1 going into the seventh, when to tie the game. The homer broke the mark set by George Brett, who held the record for 40 years.
Hao-Yu Lee homered, doubled and drove in two runs for the Tigers, extending his hitting streak to a career-best 10 games, but Detroit’s winning streak ended at three.
Neither starter was involved in the decision. Kansas City’s Michael Wacha allowed two runs on six hits in seven innings, while Casey Mize gave up one run on three hits in six innings.
The teams traded solo runs in the second. A sacrifice fly by KC’s Michael Massey scored Vinnie Pasquantino in the top of the inning before Riley Greene doubled and scored on Lee’s double in the bottom of the inning.
Lee homered in the fourth to put the Tigers ahead, but Perez led off the seventh with his 401-foot homer off Kyle Finnegan.
GIANTS 9, ANGELS 2
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Rafael Devers and Jung Hoo Lee hit three-run homers, Robbie Ray pitched six shutout innings and San Francisco beat Los Angeles.
Devers and Casey Schmitt opened the scoring with RBI singles in the third before Lee lined a sweeper 365 feet into the right-field stands to extend the Giants lead to 5-0.
Luis Arraez added a one-run single in the fourth, and Devers extended the lead to 9-0 with his team-leading 22nd homer of the season. The homer was Devers’ third since the All-Star break and second in as many days.
Ray (9-6) struck out five and gave up six hits on just 80 pitches before being lifted. Over his last seven games, the 34-year-old left-hander has thrown innings with a 1.04 ERA and a 4-0 record.
Ryan Johnson (2-5) gave up eight runs on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings for the Angels. Catcher pitched a hitless inning of relief.
NATIONALS 5, DIAMONDBACKS 3
WASHINGTON (AP) — CJ Abrams hit a solo home run and drove in three for Washington in a win over Arizona.
Abrams was a part of a four-run third inning when he hit an RBI double. Daylen Lile hit a triple to score two more runs. Abrams added his solo shot in the fifth, going 390 feet to right-center field for his 25th home run of the year. He added a single in the seventh for his third hit of the game to finish one short of the cycle.
Starting pitcher Foster Griffin (12-2) threw 108 pitches over 6 2/3 innings. He gave up six hits and finished with three earned runs, walking one and striking out two.
Clayton Beeter picked up his ninth save, throwing six strikes in the final inning.
Gabriel Moreno got the Diamondbacks on the board in the third inning with a two-run single. James McCann added an RBI single for Arizona’s third run.
Mitch Bratt (0-1) pitched five innings for Arizona. He gave up seven hits and walked five while striking out three.
PADRES 7, MARLINS 2
MIAMI (AP) — Ty France drove in three runs, JP Sears gave up one hit and struck out three over 3 1/3 innings, and San Diego extended Miami’s losing streak to 11.
France hit a two-run single in the third inning and drove in another run with a single in the eighth inning. Gavin Sheets hit a sacrifice fly in the seventh, and Jase Bowen hit a two-run single in the eighth to increase the Padres’ lead to 6-1.
Jake Cronenworth hit a single to score Fernando Tatis Jr. in the ninth. Jackson Merrill went 3 for 4 and scored two runs as the Padres had 11 hits overall.
Sears (3-3) entered the game with two outs in the third inning and walked one.
Esteury Ruiz scored the Marlins’ first run of the game off a sacrifice fly by Otto Lopez in the third. Kyle Stowers hit an RBI single that broke through the gap and into center field with Ruiz on third in the eighth inning.
The Marlins’ last win came against the Mariners before the All-Star break.
YANKEES 3, PHILLIES 1
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Austin Wells and Jasson Domínguez homered, Ryan Weathers pitched into the sixth inning, and New York beat Philadelphia.
Cody Bellinger singled, doubled and drove in a run for the Yankees, who have won three in a row and five of their last six. games New York improved its AL-leading road record to 33-22 with its sixth straight victory away from home.
Bryce Harper drove in Philadelphia’s run with a first-inning sacrifice fly as the Phillies fell to 2-6 on a nine-game homestand against the Mets, Dodgers and Yankees that concludes on Sunday.
Weathers (4-7) rebounded from three consecutive poor outings, allowing one run on six hits and seven strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. David Bednar pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his 20th save.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Nick Martinez threw six sharp innings, Yandy Díaz became the fourth player in Tampa Bay history to reach 1,000 hits and the Rays shut out slumping Cleveland.
Junior Caminero hit an RBI double in the fifth to put Tampa Bay up 1-0 before Cedric Mullins extended the lead with a sacrifice fly. Hunter Feduccia added a sacrifice bunt in the sixth that scored Victor Mesa Jr.
The Rays have the best record in the American League at 61-43 and lead the AL East by two games over the New York Yankees.
Tanner Bibee pitched six innings and All-Star rookie Travis Bazzana had two of Cleveland’s five hits as the Guardians lost their fourth consecutive game.
Díaz reached the milestone with his leadoff single in the first and finished 2 for 4 with a run. Carl Crawford holds the franchise record with 1,480 hits.
Martinez (10-2) struck out five and walked none. He allowed four hits and lowered his ERA to 2.45 over 117 1/3 innings in his first season with Tampa Bay.
Cole Sulser and Garrett Cleavinger each pitched an inning before All-Star closer Bryan Baker worked a one-hit ninth for his 27th save.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Andre Pallante matched his season high with eight strikeouts in seven strong innings, and St. Louis scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth in a win over Cincinnati.
Pallante (11-6) allowed two hits and a walk, and Gordon Graceffo pitched two innings in relief for St. Louis, which snapped a two-game skid. The Cardinals had lost six of their previous seven games.
Six straight Cardinals reached base with one out in the sixth inning before Nathan Church laid down a safety squeeze bunt that scored Bryan Torres and gave the Cardinals a 7-0 lead.
Iván Herrera hit a two-run double to left field to snap an 0-for-12 skid, Torres lined an RBI single to left field, and Blaze Jordan dribbled a two-run single to right field to end Hunter Greene’s (2-2) night.
Greene allowed seven runs, six earned, on eight hits and two walks over 5 1/3 innings in his fourth start of the season since being activated from the injured list on July 4.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pete Crow-Armstrong was 4 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs to lead Chicago to a rout of Pittsburgh.
Shota Imanaga (7-8) held Pittsburgh to four hits in six innings, striking out four and walking one.
Pittsburgh’s Paul Skenes (9-9), who had allowed five runs in 18 1/3 innings to win his previous three starts, struck out 11 in 5 1/3 innings but gave up five earned runs on six hits and two walks.
Crow-Armstong, who was a triple short of the cycle, had an extra-base hit in three straight innings, capped by a two-run homer over the wall in right off Ron Marinaccio to give Chicago a 10-run lead in the seventh inning. It was his 23rd of the season.
He also had a single in the first and an RBI double in the fifth off Skenes, and a double off Isaac Mattson in the sixth.
The Cubs struck out nine times against Skenes through the first four innings before solving him for three runs in the fifth. Crow-Armstrong sent a 2-2 changeup to the center field wall, driving in Dansby Swanson. Then, with the infield in and two runners in scoring position, Seiya Suzuki dropped a single into right field over first baseman Ryan O’Hearn.
ORIOLES 3, BRAVES 2
BALTIMORE (AP) — Dylan Beavers singled home a run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Baltimore a win over Atlanta.
Jackson Holliday hit a one-out line drive off Didier Fuentes (4-1), and he ended up with a double when left fielder Mauricio Dubón was unable to make a diving catch. Holliday went to third on Colton Cowser’s deep flyout, then Beavers pulled a 100 mph fastball past diving second baseman Ozzie Albies to win it.
The Orioles improved to 9-16 in one-run games after dropping the opener of this series 7-6 in 10 innings. Baltimore is now 2 1/2 games out of the final playoff spot in the American League. The Braves remained 5 1/2 games ahead of second-place Philadelphia in the NL East.
Yennier Cano (2-2) pitched a perfect ninth for the win. Gunnar Henderson homered for the Orioles, and Albies went deep for the Braves.
The starting pitching matchup of Brandon Young vs. Bryce Elder provided material for new “Who’s on First?” routines — and it was all the more amusing since Young is actually nine months older than Elder.
Baltimore’s Young allowed a run and four hits in 6 1/3 innings, walking two and striking out six. Atlanta’s Elder yielded one earned run and four hits in five innings.
TWINS 2, ATHLETICS 0
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Alan Roden hit a two-run single to snap Minnesota’s scoreless streak at 14 2/3 innings and the Twins beat the Athletics.
The Twins had not scored in 25 of their previous 27 innings before Roden drove in a pair in the bottom of the sixth off A’s reliever Mason Barnett. Minnesota was shut out in Friday’s series opener and scored in just two innings Thursday in Cleveland.
Minnesota left-hander Kendry Rojas moved into the starting role after scheduled starter Mike Paredes was scratched with a left oblique strain he suffered during warmups. Rojas was solid in four innings of work, striking out five and allowing just one hit.
Taylor Rogers (6-3) pitched two scoreless innings in relief of Rojas to earn the win. Yoendrys Gómez picked up his 13th save of the season and his 12th with the Twins. Barnett (1-1) took the loss for the A’s.
Nick Kurtz returned to action for the Athletics on Saturday after spending time on the injured list with a right thumb strain. He struggled in his return, striking out four times as the designated hitter.
RANGERS 7, MARINERS 1
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Nathan Eovaldi gave up three hits and struck out eight in seven innings while Wyatt Langford and Joc Pederson had three hits each for Texas in a win over Seattle.
Eovaldi (10-8), who allowed one run and walked one, has five starts of at least seven innings this season, second in the major leagues behind Philadelphia’s Christopher Sánchez with six.
Langford’s three hits included two doubles and matched his season high. Ezequiel Duran had a triple, a single and two RBIs.
Seattle’s Bryan Woo (7-7) gave up five runs on nine hits, matching a season high, in five innings. Woo is 1-7 on the road this season with a 6.52 ERA while 6-0 at home with a 2.20 ERA.
Texas took a 3-0 lead in the first inning with three extra-base hits and a walk.
The Rangers scored twice in the second on another double by Langford to score Pederson and Duran’s single to bring home Langford.
Nicky Lopez doubled home two runs in the seventh.
BREWERS 8, ROCKIES 5
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Rookies Cooper Pratt and Luis Lara drove in three runs apiece and Robert Gasser worked six solid innings as Milwaukee beat Colorado.
The 21-year-old Pratt, the starting shortstop since being called up from Triple-A Nashville in mid-June, had a solo homer, two singles and a sacrifice fly.
Lara, also 21, was called up from Nashville on July 7. He doubled in two runs, singled, added a sacrifice fly and walked.
Pratt was signed to an eight-year, $50.75 million contract in April, while outfielder Lara signed a $31 million, seven-year deal in June.
Gasser (3-4) allowed two runs on five hits in six innings, striking out four without a walk.
DODGERS 4, METS 3
NEW YORK (AP) — Kyle Tucker homered for the second consecutive game, Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six gritty innings and Los Angeles capitalized on two defensive mistakes by New York in a victory.
Freddie Freeman had his third straight three-hit game and Andy Pages drove in two runs against New York rookie Nolan McLean (7-7). The two-time defending World Series champions won their fourth in a row and improved to 5-0 against the Mets this season.
Los Angeles has the best record in the majors at 67-38.
In a three-run third, the Dodgers scored on Pages’ groundout after a throwing error by first baseman Brett Baty. They got another run on the eighth passed ball this season charged to Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez, most in the National League.
Tucker started the inning by hitting McLean’s 2-2 fastball inside the right-field foul pole for his ninth homer. It was the first time Tucker homered in consecutive games since spurning the Mets in free agency last offseason to sign a

Six days after beating Cam Schlittler at Yankee Stadium for his first career regular-season Yamamoto (11-6) was not as sharp and constantly pitched with runners on. He allowed five singles, struck out five and walked three.
ASTROS 4, WHITE SOX 1
CHICAGO (AP) — Hunter Brown pitched seven shutout innings of two-hit ball and Isaac Paredes had three RBIs as Houston beat Chicago for its fifth straight victory.
Jeremy Peña finished with three of Houston’s six hits and scored twice.
Brown (2-1), making his seventh start after spending 11 weeks on the injured list with a right shoulder strain, allowed only two singles. He struck out seven and walked none in outpitching Chicago starter Sean Burke.
An All-Star last season, Brown retired 21 of the 23 hitters he faced — including his final 12. Three relievers finished, with Josh Hader getting two outs for his 12th save after Colson Montgomery singled home Chicago’s lone run in the ninth.
Paredes’ bases-loaded single off Burke in the sixth drove in the Astros’ first two runs. A third scored and Paredes reached third when the ball slid past rookie right fielder Braden Montgomery for an error and rolled to the wall.
Burke (7-5) permitted three runs, two earned, on four hits and a hit batter in six innings. The right-hander struck out 10 and set down the first 15 of 17 Houston batters in his seventh straight sharp outing.
