Left-handed pitcher Dylan Volantis stepped onto the scene in a big way for the Texas Longhorns in 2025.
He was the SEC Freshman of the Year, a first-team All-American, and was even named the National Freshman of the Year by D1 Baseball.
In 51 innings of work, Volantis had a 1.94 ERA with 74 strikeouts compared to just 12 walks. He also made 12 saves this past season, which ranked top 10 in the country.
Volantis’ best performance came in a game against the Georgia Bulldogs on April 6. In four innings, he allowed no runs and gave up just one hit and one walk. He also struck out eight Georgia hitters.
His season-high in innings pitched was 5 1/3 against the Santa Clara Broncos on March 9.
The Texas Longhorns have a ton of talented pitchers returning to Austin for the 2026 college baseball season.
There are also lots of great pitchers coming in by way of the transfer portal. The Longhorns have the third-best incoming transfer class according to D1 Baseball.
Working out where each pitcher fits into the staff is a part of the journey during fall practices and exhibitions. This includes discovering where Volantis can fit.
The sophomore from Thousand Oaks, Calif. has the talent and skill to be placed anywhere in a pitching staff. Based off the save total from last season, he seems like a sure-fire fit for a closer role in 2026.
