The East Carolina Pirates started their weekend with a 7-0 win over the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. Ethan Norby got the start for ECU and was incredible during his 7.1 innings. He struck out 19 batters in the game and is now the American Athletic Conference record holder for strikeouts in a game.

Norby’s strikeouts accounted for about 86% of the outs he recorded in his start.
Norby also gave up just three hits and did not walk any Coastal Carolina batters, which contributed to the Pirates’ shutout.
The win was credited to the sophomore southpaw, making it his first in the 2025 season.
Norby had been given a lot of praise in the preseason. The AAC coaches named him to the all-conference team in the preseason. The NBCWA also named him a member of the third team All-American squad in the preseason as well.
This praise paid off on Friday as the East Carolina starter delivered one of the best pitching performances of the season in college baseball.
The Pirates are now 7-6 overall this season. On Saturday, Mar. 8, at Clark-LeClair Stadium, they will try to win the weekend series against Coastal Carolina. The first pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. EST.
