On Thursday, the Toronto Blue Jays named Trey Yesavage their starting pitcher for game one of the 2025 World Series.
This regular season, Yesavage has a 3.21 ERA in three starts with the Blue Jays.
He made his debut on September 15 against the Tampa Bay Rays. In that game, he had nine strikeouts and gave up just one earned run in five innings of work.
In the postseason, Yesavage has a 4.20 ERA in three starts. He has 22 strikeouts across 15 innings of work.
His last postseason start came against the Seattle Mariners in Game 6 of the American League Championship Series. He had seven strikeouts and gave up just two earned runs in 5 2/3 innings of work.
Yesavage was a very recent college player. Toronto picked him 20th overall in the 2024 MLB Draft after he spent three seasons pitching for the East Carolina Pirates.
In those three seasons, Yesavage threw 195 1/3 innings. He had 145 strikeouts and a 2.58 ERA. He also allowed an opposing batting average of .186 across his entire collegiate career.
During his final college season in 2024, Yesavage was named a first-team All-AAC player, a first-team All-American, and was the AAC Pitcher of the Year.
He was also a first-team All-AAC player and a second-team All-American in 2023.
Yesavage helped lead East Carolina to the NCAA Tournament in all three seasons he was there. The Pirates also won four different conference championships when Yesavage played in Greenville.
Game one of the 2025 World Series between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Los Angeles Dodgers will be on Thursday, October 24.
The first pitch is scheduled for 8 p.m. EDT, and the game can be watched on Fox.
